I was looking at the info on how to earn and spend Viz. I just bought my first pieces of gear (Nunchaka, for the win), and I saw something about "Surviving Fanister's Island "

How do I access Fanister's Island ? Where is it and what exactly is it? Is it available to play yet, or still in the works? Does it take Viz to play? If so, how much? Can anything be won (exp, viz) for doing well?

To answer you question, Fanisters island is a communal forum RPG that was hosted by Davideo7 until late 2006, which was the last rehash of Fanisters island.
You can no longer access it, Fanisters island was not a separate feature and was located in-thread
The location is not stated and the island itself consists of Volcanoes, grasslands, forests and desert.

There was a prize pot in which everyone paid Viz and if they were in the top 3 survivors, they would win a part of the pot. Exp was not a prize.

If there is anything I have not answered about it, feel free to post again.

I sounds like a kind of online Dungeons and Dragons played on the forum. Was it just to hard to maintain, or was there a lack of interest? Is he battle arena going to be a sort of replacement, gear-wise? Or is viz-bought gear mostly for show?

I like the idea of an online game like this! It's too bad it had to go.

Yes, I would have to agree with you that it played somewhat like dungeons and dragons, except that deaths were completely randomized.
I'm guessing that after Fanisters finished it was dropped due to Davideo7 simply not having enough time to host it, with him making quite a few board developments after that.
The battle arena has been put on hiatus for quite a long while now... No word from Davideo7 for a definite release date so far.
Viz-bought gear right now thanks to the roll-on effect from the arena on wait is mostly for show.

As an added bonus, I have just found the thread and the result thread in the treasure can for you, enjoy!
