It all depends on what you have. I would take wired over wireless because I don't have a laptop. If I had a laptop I would still prefer wired most of the time. The speed is better and more consistent than wireless.

I would probably have wireless though so that I could use my laptop anywhere in my apartment. That would be nice.

I like wireless. Why? More devices can access wireless at once. I can be using my computer's browser while using my DS online, and while having my Wii connected to WiiConnect24. I don't need a thousand wires all over the place. Plus, the whole "security issue" thing is nothing to worry about as long as you don't stamp, "MY WEP KEY IS XXXX-XXX-XXXX-X" on your forehead and frolic in public.

Wired internet, everything else is crappy.

As for setup at home, get wired to a router, and then wire anything that's stationary. And use anything temporary or often moving around in the house wireless. Anything really close to the router should also go wireless (unless you want the PERFECT speed)

Doesn't get better than that.

Well, it really depends. If you are in a house sharing a connection with multiple people like I am then wireless is the best option to go with. Wireless sucks though, it's slow, works in certain areas, and vulnerbal to others joining in on your connection. Good thing is it's wireless and has no wires and also can get a connection anywhere where it has strength but that's the only good things.

I really hate sharing a connection though cause it causes so many problems at times, wired is a lot better unless you are using devices like a PSP or something else that has the ability to connect wirelessly, then get wireless lol

They are now offering wireless internet that is just as fast as any wired internet connection. In 2007 they released 802.11 N- it is 150 Mbps, they also have in production for new routers said to go up to 500 Mbps - which is faster then most dsl wired connections. Wireless internet can be as fast as you want it, it just depends on what kind of router you have

Pros for wireless- you can have multiple things connected to the internet at the same time.

Cons- Depending on what kind of router you have it may not be as fast as it would be for wired

Where did my post go!!

Wirless internet or wireless network are you talking about?

Wireless internet - I wouldnt bother with it, sure you get portability and decent speed, but if you got bandwidths (like here) they'll probly suck and wireless connections usualy cost more..
- go with wired!

Wireless network - Definatly worth having. Get your phone, computer, game systems all conected without cords running everywhere. You can set MAC+IP locks so only MAC addresses you set can access the network, so thats safe. I pinged my router, 1ms, so ping/speed isnt a factor (unless your on an internet connection greater than 54mbps..). Only downside to wireless network, they get interfeered by some portable phones, and other wireless devices (door bell? electric garage opener?).
- go with wireless!

Gaming isnt a problem on wireless, I think you could almost even have a wireless lan games comp without problems.

@pbishop2010, I dont think thats 500mbps internet, i think thats just wireless network. Suprised it isnt up yet, there are many 1gbps connections out there. Friend of mine doing networking says all they have to do is up the frequency and you get more speed, but by doing that you get less range, and it burns out the antaners faster.. so a win-lose situation.

So in conclusion, I've never personaly had problems with wireless (network, wired modem) connections (for gaming online and lan). Just dont go get the cheapest wireless router out there.

I belive so

Wikipedia says Verizons's FiOS has speeds of 50Mbit/s down, 20Mbit/s up.

Seriously.. do we NEED that much speed?

Some points:

wired:
faster and reliable connection
can't do without wires ^^
quite tedious-looking
wires, wires, wires, and wires for every connection ^^

wireless:
convenient accessibility
not that reliable
tends to lessen connection by approx. 50% for every closed wall obstacle
tech-looking ^^

Well, at the end, you're the one who decides what to use.
Maybe both ^^
