The Scarier Series: Resident Evil or Silent Hill?

Which series is more scary to you, Resident Evil or Silent Hill? Just vote honestly on which one you find the most disturbing/scary and just explain why, give some examples if you like. **If there is a series that you think is more scary than the two main options, vote other, say what series it is, and explain why.
Resident Evil

28.6%, 2 votes
Silent Hill

57.1%, 4 votes
Other

14.3%, 1 vote

xxblackwarriorxx : I know I'm pretty late for a reply (I've been busy with work... ") but I have to agree with you on being alone. That tends to be a big factor in Silent Hill and the majority of the time you are (excluding parts of Silent Hill 2 where Maria follows you). With Resident Evil you mostly have a team of people and I suppose to run into them frequently on things and often times while being attacked by some monster.

As for the monsters popping out, I agree with that also. The fog world of Silent Hill gives the enemies the instant element of surprise while with Resident Evil they are usually just there and there are time where monsters do just pop out but not as frequently as Silent Hill.

But thank you for voting and the feedback!

I have not played Silent Hill. I do not usually play horror games. I have played Doom 3 and a little Resident Evil, so that is about all I can go off of. Therefore, my vote is Resident Evil. Doom 3 was just... unpredictable as for when the... zombies? would pop out of nowhere and attack you.

thing1 : Hey its totally understandable. Some people haven't played Silent Hill or some people haven't played Resident Evil. I made the poll to see what others in the community think. And its awesome that you played Doom 3, I'm a big fan of the Doom series. There were zombies in Doom 3, the human-like enemies, everything else was a big ugly demon, like the Imps that crawl all around.

Thank you for your vote! Any feedback is good feedback in my book!

thing1 : If that's what you'd like to do, go for it. I'll be more than happy to go over all the nice scare tactics and experiences from Doom and any other horror games we've played. I seem to have an unhealthy love for horror games that can make me jump through the roof of my house. XD

Are you referring for these to be video games or movies? If they are video games, I would choose Resident Evil because I don't know what Silent Hill is and I, also, I don't know many scary video games. If you are referring to movies, I would choose Other because I know many scary movies, but I don't know what Silent Hill is. I had already voted for Resident Evil for video game, well, at least I assume.

ProGamer135 : Well, I'm mostly referring to the video games, the movies for either side are alright. Its fine that you haven't heard or seen Silent Hill, many haven't. All in all Silent Hill is a pretty good horror series in the gaming world, in the psychological aspect of the game it can really mess with your head for sure. If you want you can look into Silent Hill because I personally love it and would recommend it or at least a look over. I suppose Resident Evil is more publicized than Silent Hill but then again RE IS from Capcom.

I appreciate your feedback very much. And I can't wait to see what Resident Evil 6 has in store for us.

zerothesaint : Well, you're welcome for my feedback, zerothesaint. I appreciate your feedback, too.

I voted Resident Evil because it is one of the only scary video games that I know and have experienced, before. I am not a scary fan.
I had never heard of Silent Hill, included inside my lifetime.
I don't know many scary video games, though.

ProGamer135: I would give you a list of scary video games but because you're not a huge fan of the horror genre I'll just hold off on that. But I don't mean that in a rude way though, horror games aren't everyone's "cup of tea" in the gaming community and that's just fine with me. However, if you would or do want the little list of horror games that I know of I would be more than happy to give that to you. Other than that keep on gaming and enjoy the games to come or the classics to behold.

And thank you for your vote! :3

Honestly? Silent Hill Homecoming has scared me more than any other horror game I have saw, my vote is going to Silent hill, no matter what, creepy lady humans having tubes come out of their mouths, in their behind, and their neck stretching out, also those mechanical spider legs.... Yep, to me that thing is the least scariest thing I have seen in any horror game, but still, the Pyramid heads could scare me out of the country if they wanted to. XD
(Me and my friends have a TON of conversations about Silent Hill During school hours, can't get enough of scary stuff.)

HakumeixShay: Before I officially reply I would like to say that your layout is AWESOME!

Sadly not many of my friends have ever heard of Silent Hill but they've all heard of Resident Evil. I envy you, I wish I could have some epic conversations daily but at least I have a chance to introduce my friends to the series and see how they react when they play. XD
But its nice to see there are some people out there who love the series like I do. I was expecting to see more votes for Resident Evil at this point since that series is so well known.

I have to agree with you about Homecoming. That one was definitely scary and it really messed with your head. Its sad not a lot of people like it because of the story or because of the combat mechanic but I see it as a way for them to experiment with stuff and see what people have to say and improve upon it. I personally liked Homecoming very much. And Pyramid Head, as the Iconic symbol of Silent Hill that he is, will always be some kinda scary. He just...IS. He's a lurking presence you can't fight and all you can do is run or suffer...whatever punishment he has in mind. I'm in the same boat though, if I saw him once, I'm out. But I can't get enough of scary games either. Nothing in real life seems to bother me but when its something like Silent Hill, I'm scared for sure and I have no problem admitting that.

Thank you for your feedback and your vote though! Its really appreciated! Hopefully more people will vote and post their feedback so we can really see some results among the community.

Sorry if this reply comes late, but I couldn't resist to vote. Is RE scarier than SH? Clearly not. While Resident Evil was based around survival along with the creepy factor, but basically with silly zombies and mutated creatures (talking about the first ones, the newest one are just shooters) Silent Hill is about how one apparently normal person is purging his sins in a haunted city which change according to his own memories and feelings. The atmosphere is way scarier and besides the jump scares, silent hill has that constant feeling of not knowing what is going to happen next. Also, in Silent Hill you are way more vulnerable to the horrifying monsters in your path, and the different endings have al kind of meanings an are considered by a very curious way clearly affected by decisions in game, but without you noticing it.
Anyway, if I have to go for a scarier game, that's without doubt Amnesia - The Dark Descend. Amnesia is not based around jump scares and makes you have a constant feel of horror instead of just in specific moments. You don't know what's going own, you are totally unarmed and you are without a doubt a normal human being which actually gets scare and keeps becoming more insane as long keeps going down. Amnesia is a game where after entering once in the water, you'll never wanna get back in the water, is a game where after running out of oil once, you don't wanna be left in the dark anymore, and after you played once, you really wanna keep playing.

cocoloquin: I mostly made the post because from some of the people I've asked around my area they've all said RE was scarier but the majority said they've never even heard of Silent Hill so they instantly have RE as being the scariest. I most definitely like and appreciate your point of view on SH and I agree with you for sure.

Now I've heard of Amnesia and tried a bit, it's alright. The inability to fight back is kind of nice but after awhile annoyed me, (that's just me of course because I'm a SH junkie for the most part and sometimes being able to fight the nightmares a couple times has a good feeling). I liked the puzzles in it but after awhile I could predict monster attacks. I'm not saying Amnesia is a bad game at all, clearly it is good and people do like it, but it hasn't done too much for me. I mean I can probably go back and try it again but maybe it has something with me playing multiple horror games as a kid and now that I'm older it takes more to get into my head. I can admit I felt a bit claustrophobic going throughout hallways but SH has done the same for me. Now with the never wanting to be in the dark, I mostly conquered that when I tried playing SH games without the flashlight, it sucked and scared the hell out of me.

Anyways I greatly appreciate your feedback and adding a vote to the "Other" choice, hopefully this might get others to mention some other games possibly. Sorry for the really late reply also, work has kept me busy. "
cocoloquin: I mostly made the post because from some of the people I've asked around my area they've all said RE was scarier but the majority said they've never even heard of Silent Hill so they instantly have RE as being the scariest.

I've never played Silent Hill, but I have played Resident Evil before. It's scary.
