My friends WII broke from watching a DVD on the WII so I recommend not doing it. I just finished reading an article about it destroying WIIs too.

I put it here because what if Nintendo came here and would be like their hacking their Wii's. Then they send an army to destroy us or something. I can't find the article but I read that they are making an adapter to allow the Wii to play DVDs so I'm going to buy that and not risk destroying my Wii. This kinda says that it isn't meant for DVD playback because they have to make a new system for that. Nintendo plans to release a version of the console with DVD-Video playback capabilities. This new model will use the CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator software engine by Sonic Solutions.[76] After announcing the DVD version for 2007, Nintendo delayed its release to focus on producing the original console to meet demand.[77] Although software will be used to enable DVD-Video functionality, Nintendo has stated that it "requires more than a firmware upgrade" to implement and that the functionality would be unavailable as an upgrade option for the existing Wii model.[76] If you have to have a DVD player that you can take with you to hotels and stuff buy a portable one.

Nintendo don't care about your friends Wii. They also dont know who you are, or how to find out who you ae... Basically, this thread is perfectly fine in the "Gaming" thread.

Anyway, i dont think its just Wii. A friend told me that playing DVDs on X-Bix 360 is also relativly bad as Microsoft didnt really develop it to play DVDs therefore it doesnt do so well.... Not to sure on the Wiis, also couldnt find anything about it, if someone finds the article please post it here.

I doubt this is from watching DVD's... How do you know it was DVD's and not just overuse?

well, wiis aren't built for dvd watching

What Ziggy said. He had not used it very much before watching the movie so I'm guessing it's not from overuse.

i didnt even know you could watch dvd's on the wii. i definitly will not try it now.

Wow is that true, so watching DVD's is not a good idea on the Wii, anyone has a bad experience with the PS3 watching blue ray movies.

I have a PS3 and it has not had any problems. It actually works really well with CDs, DVDs and Blue ray.

Thanks wired, well i guess it will be a major suck if it gets damaged playing movies when the price is higher than other consoles.

A relation to that same problem is the PS2. Alot of you will say that the console was already made with DVD playback, so what's the harm? The similarity is that both consoles lasers were not meant to continuously run only in periods to read then shut off. My result, I have an old phat ps2 with the DVD laser burned out so it can't play PS2 DVD-Roms or DVD's. However it can still play CD, PSX, and PS2 CD-Roms.
