"Maltese Falcon"
"Sam Spade" was the coolest Detective Film Noir Story Of The Past that I can Think of.
Using your head to dig the truth out of people is one of my favourite things to see when shows get it right.
Several Movies do this well but they almost all have direct links to this one tale.
Every time we see a good interrogation scene the idea was as similar as this show with one factor that allot fail to observe.
In this show all the characters are feeling the importance of time being against them.
Many shows don't have the time factor. (Sometimes it is not needed.)
This is the one defining aspect that guides our decisions in everyday life. Some shows can Ignore it with its characters but I favour the way this show does not.
Allot of bad or "Ill-advised" decisions can crop up when time is against a character. Its how an audience can believe a characters Path in a show.
Many Shows go over the top with silly things like good guys vs bad guys and other silly inventions that annoy audiences. This show has the whole world as Grey or Dark. No one is innocent and "Everybody Pays".
When Time is a factor and going home "empty handed" is not an option for any character??? This Show Rocks.
Not the best movie ever but pretty friggin good considering it still makes money to this day.
That's What I got for this thread.
Good Luck.
I'm Done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

Well considering I'm one of the older active members on this site, I would say that a lot of my favorites are considered "Classic" lol

I could make my post Thousands of words listing them all, but here are a handful in several Genres right off the top of my head.

Dumb and Dumber
Waynes World
Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day off

Batman (1989)
Terminator 1, 2
Rocky 1-4

Starwars (Original 3)
Blade Runner
Indiana Jones (Original 3)
Escape from New York

There are a ton more, but I don't want to have a huge post ;-)

For me a classic movie is a pre-70`s movie. But no matter.

Best movie of all time is Gone with the wind. The book is way better, ofcource but the movie is also just a masterpiece of cinematography. Sure, you might think of it as a "romance" movie but for me there is very little romance in it. Basically its about a relationship of two opportunists in a historical setting with lots of charming humor embedded in it in a very interesting historical setting. Also it is a cavalcade of the best character actors of its time doing their best work.

Nobody ever belives when I say this but I have seen it maybe 50 times. First time I did I was maybe 8 and I have loved it ever since.

My favorite classic movie is Gaslight (1944) directed by George Cukor, followed by Rebecca (1940) directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

The Godfather (Parts 1 and 2) are among my most favourite movies of all time, not just classic movies. Marlon Brando was absolutely amazing in The Godfather.
