The Legend
of Zelda franchise is the true definition of adventure games. It's unique and
quirky gameplay mechanic sets the standard in its genre. And out of all the
Zelda games, the one that stands out as the most popular is Ocarina of Time for
the Nintendo 64. This game was, in fact, a turning point for the franchise with
its 3D perspective and it later inspired other great Zelda games such as
Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.
I have been around the gaming community many times, and I have
often heard people saying that this game was their personal favorite Zelda
game, as well as their favorite game of all time. And I can respect that. But
in my case however...
I consider Ocarina of Time to be a tad bit overrated.
Before I start to explain why, let me just say this. I mean no
hatred towards anyone who disagrees with this opinion. If you do disagree,
that's perfectly fine. Now...
Let's start by saying that I do not hate the game. Far from it,
actually. Ocarina of Time does hold a place in my heart as an eternal classic
game. And not just to the franchise, but also a classic in general.
But the main reason problem with this game is, plain and simple,
the lack of specialty. In other words, compared to other Legend of Zelda games,
it’s just not that unique.
I mean yeah, the game is the first 3D
Zelda and they were just going for quality instead of originality, but still. The
only thing that actually set this game apart from the others is kid/adult weapons
and the Ocarina itself. But then came along Majora’s Mask which, not only had
Link as a teenager so he could use adult weapons, but also gave him more items,
and used the Ocarina to its full potential.
In short, this game is still amazing,
but not enough for me to think of it as the best Legend of Zeldagame.
But hey, feel free to post any comments on the thread and tell me your opinion. But make sure to read the article carefully before doing so.
