About the Periodic Table, nearly 120 elements have been made, here are some that I know:

Au = Gold
Cu = Copper
H = Hydrogen
O = Oxygen
C = Carbon
He = Helium

Do you know any elements from the Periodic Table? I can't believe that I am reading about this, and we have nearly 1 month left until school ends for the summer, but I am in 7th grade, and my class started reading this a few days ago.

I have had to memorize every element in the periodic table (except for the man-made ones). I can tell you each elements molecular weight, electronegativity, freezing/boiling/melting points, polarity, etc. Now, you will not have to know all this for a high school course, so don't freak out. The periodic table isn't so confusing when you take your first chemistry class.

The periodic table makes perfect sense, actually. I don't know all of the elements by heart, or even most of them, but you don't really need to unless it relates to your career. That's why we have the table.

 The Periodic table is a very well organized graph, and every elements placement on the graph means something in accordance to what type of element it is, how many valence electrons it has, it's weight, and even the polarity of an individual atom.  There are many things that you will learn about the periodic table and the elements once you venture further into your school career and get into more advanced high school chemistry.

I don't know the standards of what you need to know, but in Canada, the grade 9 science curriculum says that the minimum of all the elements you need to know are numbers 1-21, and some basics about certain things, like how to make a Bohr Atom Model, which isn't very hard. Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Oxygen, Fluorine, Neon, Sodium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Silicon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Chlorine, Argon, Potassium, Calcium. It sounds hard, but it really isn't. I learned that about half a year ago and listed them off by heart.

My advise: Make a song about it. Daniel Radcliffe, the guy from Harry Potter, can list all of the elements in order, forward and backward and it all sounds like a song.

D'you guys have to remember every single element on the Periodic Table? I do know that the elements are separated by metal (left side), nonmetal (right side), and metalloid (middle).

catfight09 : No, what questions you about that? My class only had to learn the groups in their science books. If I ever have to learn all 112 or so elements, "I will Mama Mia off a cliff!"

That quote came from my Mario fan story, "Mario school last day madness".

Well there is a lot of elements on earth so I'm sure whoever genius made the periodic table of elements tried to make it as easy to understand as possible.

G@mehe@d :
CC23 :

You two just bumped and revived a completly dead thread!

The only elements I know since the thread was bumped up is:

Au = Copper
H = Hydrogen

I maybe know another one, but I don't know anymore of them.

Stevie 764 : Thread bumping itself isn't against the rules. It is when you notice someone bumping a lot of old threads (particularly for post count or any of the competitions) is it a problem. It isn't newbies fault that they joined after a thread has lot it's activity and shouldn't be disallowed from giving their input.

I was kind of in a strange transition when I took chemistry. We had just moved to a new state and started a new school which literally had NO standards.  So my spanish teacher suggested that I attend a school that students normally had to apply to.  Well, when I got there, all the kids already had a semester of chemistry under their belts and then I was far behind.  Before the semester ended however, my dad put me back in the original school because he couldn't take me to the other school any more.

So yeah, between all the moving, I never did learn the chart.   I always wanted to though.  It seemed like a fun thing to memorize.  (Yeah, I'm lame.)

I have to say that it is pretty confusing to remember all the elements in order, and I barely remember any of them. Also my science teacher makes my class do a challenge, and the challenge is to remember all the elements and say them out loud in order without looking at the table, and you get a A if you do it correctly. He told me that the highest is 77. Also good luck on the subject.

pika123 : Uh the periodic table just tell you the atomic elements that have been discovered throughout the course of history. It is not a list of minerals/ materials or stuff like that.
