Horror movies tend to age poorly because they are dependant on looking real. If it is not beleivable, in what sense could it be scary? Take "The Birds" as an example; back then, picture quality was poor, but these days, you can see the strings holding the birds up. On a side note, to make the fear more beleivable, they tried throwing live birds at the lead actress to make her look more scared, but then she needed some time off because she got nightmares.
