To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where the highscores would appear, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Highscore', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Score' to submit your score.

Awesome. I remember taking screen shots for this game, and it was extremely fun. Can't wait do get started on this one.

Is there anyone else here who finds themselves cranking up their volume playing this game because the music is just freaking awesome? I do

rcarter2 : I wanted to do a game that almost no one has heard of. It looked fun too so hopefully we get some participation and bring some popularity to a game that may have gone unnoticed on this site forever.

A lot of turbo grafx games had awesome music (well technically it's supergrafx but close enough) so it's no surprise that it has awesome music lol.

I see. When I took screen shots for other turbo grafx and supergrafx games, I had the volume down for my fiancee because she was busy. So I was completely unaware of the music these games had. I love good music in a game.

Well, I've certainly never heard of this game, but then again, I've never owned any of the grafx systems to play these before.

I might give it a shot a little later, since it looks like it only takes about 15 minutes to get a score in there. (though that may just mean the game is really tough!)

Side scrolling shooters are wonderful for high score competitions. Every mistake you make is your own fault, you never die because of the game's weaknesses. And this one is particularly fun. Sad part is, I suck at games like this haha.

all right, time for a training montage.

You remember when you did the speed contest for Super Mario Frustration and you said it was probably the hardest contest you ever made here or probably ever will make? Aldynes is way harder than Super Mario Frustration by far. If you want to beat this game, you pretty much cannot doe once. Even though you can get extra lives, they almost don't matter. Once you are past the first level, you must be fully upgraded. You pretty much can't last more than 10-15 seconds in the later levels at your weakest state, which is what you are reduced to when you lose a life. You can't live long enough to get enough upgrades to survive. I have finally pretty much memorized levels 1-3 and can get through them almost every time. I'm getting pretty close to learning level 4 just as well. Once that happens, I can finally beat my own current record. But this game is hard. This is the first game you picked for a competition that I couldn't beat the game after playing as long as I have on this one. This is fun!

On my first try through I got a score of over 81,000 it's not great, but it's a start. I need a lot of practice! Good luck everyone!

This game is a lot of fun. This genre is one of the genre's that I'm really good at. If I find time this month, I'd really like to participate in this competition, who knows, maybe I can place in the top 3 (no intent of beating rcarter2 though lol).

I think this is the first horizontal side scrolling space shooter we've had a competition on, I'll have to do another one of these in the future.

kabenon007 : You bring up some great points, these types of games are perfect for competitions.

Yeah, I gotta say I am putting even more effort into it when there isn't a way for me to max the score No I am always on my toes that someone will beat my score rather than find a way to max out the score faster.

This game has a lot to it, it's not just another space shooter, it requires more strategy than most of the space shooters I've played.

madison : Thanks for making the tips thread, it makes the competition even funner and more involving when everyone helps each other out by sharing tips.

High score submissions for this game have been temporarily disabled. They'll be enabled again hopefully within a week.

Davideo7 : What, is there some kind of point exploit that people were taking advantage of?

Jordanv78 : As far as we know, nobody has taken advantage of what was discovered. The high score mode was disabled the day I reported it to David just to make sure nobody else found out about it and manipulate it. Basically, if it had been used by someone else, they would have made my current score look like a joke 

Jordanv78 : There was an exploit that was found for all of the newer systems so that's why the high score competition has been taken down for all of those games. The next plugin release will most likely fix the exploit and the competition will continue on this game and the rest of the other games. The next plugin will be released before the month ends but it might be toward the end of the month. I'm hoping this Friday but it could be as late as next Friday.

Davideo7 : Good catch by you and rcarter2. Nice to see everyone trying to keep the contest fair.

FYI playing this game made me want to play some R-Type. Any plans on putting either a Genesis or SNES version of R Type up for a contest?
