Seimika : If by "crib" you mean cribbage, and by "holes in the cards" you mean holes in the board, it's so you can use the pegs to keep score.

Seimika : If it's obvious to you what the holes in the cribbage board are for, it should also be obvious that playing cards do not have holes in them. If crib is different, it's something that you could have easily looked up on Google.

The only time I recall holes being in playing cards is when you buy them from casinos. When a casino deck has expired floor play, they sell the cards, but the punch holes in them. The reason of this is so people don't buy casino cards and use them to cheat. With those holes, they can distinguish the cards from the real deck that the house is playing with. But if you are saying there is a card game called crib that always have a hole in them, I don't know. I googled card games and found none called crib.

Oh Cribbage, yeah I guess I WAS being stupid. Another possibility is that your cards came with holes in them so you could put a peg through the cards, and into the board, thus keeping your cards and board together.

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. I thought and thought about it, and then realized that you had to be talking about the card game. As for the holes, maybe you were missing ajoker or something, and somebody put a hole in an extra card to mark it as a Joker.
