So what do you think is the best powerup in all of Metroid? IF you want, you can specify which game the powerup is an absolute beast in, since they tend to function a bit differently in some games.

For me, the best powerup ever would be the Screw Attack in the original Metroid. You can absolutely destroy everything whenever you jump and turn into an invincible wrecking ball.

The Screw Attack was pretty awesome, but I tend to not like things that make you pretty much a God because it makes it too easy. I think one of my favorite items was from Super Metroid. That little X Ray Scope that allowed you to see all hidden items, hollow walls, areas that could be destroyed with the right item, etc. I used the crap out of that thing. It is because of that I was ever able to get 100% of the items in the game.

I'm going to go against the common answer and say the super missile. Blowing stuff to bits has always been fun with those things and are a huge help in those tough boss battles.

I do like the screw attack, however, I'm going to go with the space jump on this one. I like the fact that with the space jump, you can get practically anywhere you need to go. Or if you need a  quick escape and you're in a big room, space jump makes it easy.

I also do like the speed booster. Pretty much lets you destroy just about anything you run through. Not to mention the shine spark trick that comes with it.

I have not played Other M, but I have played most of the other games.  Because everybody else has already said Screw Attack, l am going to say something else that isn't mentioned as much.  I really enjoyed the Plasma Beam from the original Metroid Prime.  Weaker enemies disintegrate with one charged shot.  I loved doing that.  The Super Missiles were awesome too.  But I never used them because I am paranoid and I always think to myself "But what if I need those five missiles later?"

Plasma beam.  Every game after you get plasma beam, you can basically just walk around and kill every living thing on the planet with ease.  Probably the best of all the beams, but Annihilator beam is pretty good too.

I'd have to say either the Space Jump or the Shinespark. For the Space Jump, I chose it because, well, it let's you jump literally infinity times in the air without having to touch the ground at all. As for the Shinespark, I think it's pretty awesome to be able to turn rainbow and run faster than a car. You can also charge any direction through the air.
