Is anyone here planning to get a Raspberry Pi?

http://www.raspberrypi.org/

I know I sure am. They sound like such neat little devices!

Even if I buy one and just use it to hook up to my TV with an SD card full of show episodes, that'd be worth it to me. That, and just to have such a neat little piece of technology to tinker with. Imagine if I could somehow get DOS on it.... Not likely to be possible, but that'd be an amazing DOS rig.... (Well, maybe not. Win95....? Hm...)

FreeDOS runs on ARM based architectures I think, but you'll have a hell of a time getting Windows 95 running. Windows CE might work though, and you could put DOSbox on that.

Anyway, I can't believe I didn't make a thread about this... But then again, pi0x is the only person here who seems to have any interest in this forum besides me. But now that you're here... I might have to make some threads for once!

Oh yeah, and no, I'll probably pass on them. Yeah the idea is neat, but the board is missing a few things I'd like to have. There's another board in a similar vane I'd like to get, but I'll post that in another thread.

Lazlo Falconi : Please do. I love having little bit sof tech to tinker with.

For what I would plan to use it for, the Raspberry Pi would work great. Instead of needing to bring a laptop to my TV room everytime I wanna do something in the comfy chair that's in front of my big-ish TV, the Pi would just always be there.

Argus Swift : That's kind of what I'm planning with... Well, you'll see! I don't want to get too off-topic here! But hey, if you don't do FreeDOS--which let's face it, we both know that won't be the MAIN operating system you run on that--what distro will you be using?

Argus Swift : Probably Ubuntu Server for ARM then. I thought there was a port of Linux Mint Debian Edition for ARM, but I guess I was wrong. There probably is somewhere, but it does not seem to be officially supported. Mandriva's good, but I've heard it can sometimes be a pain to install. Never tried it myself though.

...I think I read something about Arch supporting the Raspberry Pi, which is weird because it doesn't natively support ARM architectures, but I guess they worked out some sort of deal. That of course wouldn't be the EASIEST solution, but if you ask me it would be the most fun. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get one of these (Or a similar board) to use as a home server running Arch.

Lazlo Falconi : I think it said on the Raspberry Pi site that Ubuntu specifically had a bit of trouble, but a lot of Linux distro's were found to work.

I think they've gone on the record saying that they're letting the hacker community sink their teeth into it first, since they can really and truly stress test the machines and find out what works best.

That or use them to make robots.
