Tengen Tetris. This game is somewhat infamous for being a great unlicensed game, and it's better than Nintendo's licensed version.

But, since most people already know about Tetris, I'm going to talk about something that no other console version has...*drumroll*

Multiplayer! Yeah, two people playing at the same time. You can play cooperative or competitive, and it's fun. You can even play with a computer!

...But, alas, the computer can occasionally be a nuisance. As in, they'll get in your way, make insane decisions on where to put their pieces, and other kinds of stupidity. But, the computer is still somewhat helpful, as they have lightning-fast reflexes, like a computer normally does. And, well, I'll just give short summaries of everything else.

Graphics:They do their job perfectly.
While beautiful graphics do up a game's rating, in this game, the graphics are as good as they could really be without having the play view obstructed in some way by a background. There's just no problems in their design, so they don't interfere with gameplay.

Music:Classic Russian songs.
Most of the music in this game is famous, mainly because it's very pleasant to listen to, and they're featured in the greatest puzzle game of all time. And, no, for those fooled by the IG's video, there is no Panama soundtrack, though it might be cool if there was.

Addictiveness:Maybe I should stop playing, I've been playing for about an hour...Whoa! Two hours already?
The instant you start playing, you are addicted. And there's no way you can stop your addiction, besides frustration and a healthy serving of great games that aren't puzzle games. The only reason I'm not addicted to this is because I suck.

Story:There isn't one.
Come on, does Tetris really need a story? When they tried making a story for other Tetris games, they failed miserably.

Depth: Deeper than the Atlantic Ocean, which is great for a puzzle game with such simple mechanics.
As it turns out, this game actually has a MASSIVE amount of strategy. Where should I place this block? No, not there, that'd obstruct the next piece. I'll put it here, so it won't obstruct any other type of piece. Oh, now I need to place this one. Not there, that'd obstruct a cube piece. (You get the picture.)

Difficulty: Starts off easy, but gets much, much harder.
As the game starts off slow, the game seems somewhat easy. But, every 20 lines, the points you earned from clearing lines are tallied up, and Russian dancers come out to entertain you. After that, the game gets ever so slightly faster. It may be really, really slow at level 0, but at level 9, you'll be Russian to keep up. (Sorry, I have a pun quota to meet. )

Pros:
Basically everything

Cons:
Stupid AI in multiplayer mode

Final Rating:To take a phrase from the Irate Gamer, game sent from heaven.

The Bottom Line:If you want to play the multiplayer as it's intended, then you need an NES, two controllers, and this game. Either that, or you'll need to remap the controls to play on a keyboard. Either way, this game would be worth playing, and worth purchasing. The people at Tengen(an alias for Atari) really outdid themselves here, because this is the best port of Tetris you'll see on any system, ever.

Final Comment:If Heaven was a personalization of what a person would enjoy most, there would be at least one person who would have a room with this game and a perfectly working NES that never misreads games and controllers that never break, as well as a friend to play with, as his/her Heaven.

If I should ever get in the mood to play Tetris, I'll try out this version - thx to your review.
Does it feature the famous "Tetris-Melody" too?

Good review
