I'm not trying to be a hipster here or anything, but I'm gonna go black sheep and say it's Kid Icarus. The original two were great platformers (albeit incredibly difficult) and I'm totally psyched for Uprising, which looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome game.
Honorable mentions go to Star Fox, Mario (of course), Pokemon, Metroid, Kirby, and Donkey Kong Country.
And you know there are a lot of franchises when that's not even scratching the surface.

Out of the ones listed here, it would have to be Pokémon, it has taken up about 200+ hours of my life.

Legend of Zelda had some amazing games, but they just didn't have the replay value that Pokémon did, unfortunately Pokémon has been pumping out some pretty crappy games as of late.

Although I love Mario, and like Kirby a lot I think that my two favorite would be Mario and Zelda. Oh and you can't forget Metroid. I have loved those games ever since I played the first one for the NES as a kid.
