The Dark Knight Rises comes out this summer and to celebrate the anticipation I made this new poll.

I always loved the 89 version. I thought Michael Keaton  and Jack Nicholson did great jobs as Batman and the joker.

Hmm...the Dark Knight and 89 version of Batman comes very close for me...I will have to give the 89 film for one simple factor: the story. In The Dark Knight, I feel that the story was actually overwritten to the point of being downright tedious at times. Seeing that it is a 2 and a half hour movie, it shouldn't feel like one. The entire thrid act feels like one long climax and it actually grows as tedious as some of the monologues... albeit I love long monologues in books, but for the film medium, they better be done sparingly.

I love both versions of the Joker for different reasons, and I love the Batman done by Keaton. You know...there is a touch of irony in that regard. People didn't expect Keaton to do as well as he did, and people didn't expect Heath Ledger to do as well as he did...now their respective versions of each character are almost always in the favorite slot for a lot of people.

Well to start with I must say that I like Batman (1989 film)because...as a child I saw it first and have great memories with it. Nevertheless I would like to say that I really adore Batman Begins(2005)....I find this version fantastic...

thenumberone : The last with the current director. I have no doubt that in a few years another director will pick up the franchise if they thinks it is financially viable. No one expected him to take it up after the flop behind Batman and Robin, but...now...I can see the franchise pick up again in a few years.

Redrunelord : good point, although whether it would be any good with a different director remains to be seen.

thenumberone : It all depends what our definition of good is. For instance...batman Joel Schumacher' batman Forever was considered good when it was released but in many ways it was dumbing the whole franchise down for the children. I think if we could get someone like Tim Burton (not necessarily him mind you, just some one like him) then we could get an admittedly awesome film quite easily.

Um where is the Adam West Batman movie that is one of the really good ones.
In order from best to worst in my opinion

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Batman 1989  (couldn't decide between batman begins and batman)
batman (Adam west)
Batman Returns
Batman Forever (horrible)
Batman and Robin (worst)

The Dark Knight is my favorite by far, but maybe for a different reason than a lot of other people's reason. Alone, it is a solid movie (probably one of my favorites of all time). But the reason why I like it is because it is the first Batman movie that follows the same dark feeling that batman originally was. Ever since the Adam West Batman and the Batman cartoon, Batman lost what it originally was. It was very dark and not so child friendly. The villains were cruel, brutal, and as evil as you can get. Some of the things they did was just plain twisted (particularly the Riddler and the Joker. They were very sick characters). The TV show and the cartoon made it more child friendly. The Joker was really downgraded as they made him far more comedic than he originally was. That is why I like Dark Knight more than the 1989 Batman. Though I liked Jack Nicholson as Joker, that movie utilized the more comedic version of him than I know him as. The Dark Knight was the first time I have seen the Joker (and Batman, for that matter) to be as dark and twisted as originally made.
