Today (12/10/11) a close friend of mine moved away with his parents. They're trying to find work, and our area just doesn't have any available. While this isn't the first time it has happened to me, this time I wonder how long it could be before I see him in person again. I live in Pennsylvania. He and his family is out in western PA for now until his dad finds work in North Dakota.

I won't be completely cut off from my friend. We have social network accounts we can and will use to talk, but the face-to-face interaction will be gone for who knows how long. Don't worry about me; I'll be fine. So has anyone else here been --or currently is-- in my shoes?

I feel your pain. One of my best friends from grade school moved down to North Carolina after 6th grade. It would have been nice to have him around in middle school. After 8th grade, another friend moved down to North Carolina too. I actually had a crush on her so it was a little harder to deal with. I did get over it though. We didn't have social networks back then (first friend) and I have never heard from him since. However, the other friend I found on Facebook and we're friends on there, though, we don't really talk.

Good friends will meet again eventually.

This kinda sucks, but I know how it is.

The difference being I'm the one who moved away as opposed to your situation.

I don't want this to sound mean, but try to remember that he has it a little worse.

While you are losing a close friend, he's losing all his friends. This added with needing to make new friends at his age is going to be tough on him. So be there for him in any way you can.

I see few people from my childhood anymore, although I wish I could.
