So one of my friends gave me a Kubuntu cd sometime ago so I decided to install it today and well initial reaction is this:

Good stuff:
Easy install
Fast boot up
Adding programs is real easy!
FREE!

Bad stuff:
No gaming at all.
Some stuff can be hard for new users
Codecs are a little pain at the moment (vlc works though)

I will definitely keep using this for a while to determine how well it compares to windows.

Well I've used it before and it has my stamp of approval. The only way Kubuntu differs from Ubuntu etc. is the desktop isn't gnome. Good for being free.

Ubuntu runs the Gnome desktop which is more widely used and thus better I think the KDE desktop is a dying breed, but of course I've been wrong before.

http://distrowatch.com/ is where you can check out a lot of the different distributions. They have the programs that come with it and the links to download.

So basically the kernel is the same on Ubuntu and Kubuntu, just the visual front end is different.

Alright Bob, what problem did you computer have? I've had my share of problems. My guess is it gave you a no apic kernel panic at startup?

The live CD works fine, but when booting, the graphics go nuts (the nice orange desktop turns to an orange desktop with a big white square on a quater of it).

I been on some #ubuntu IRC channel before to get help, some people had the same graphics card as me and didnt have problems. So we left it as other conflicts that we cant solve.
