So, I've been in Kentucky since Tuesday for the national 4-H poultry judging contest. My team placed 10th in judging eggs, but we didn't place high enough in anything else to be announced .
We also got 2 fire alarms withing 24 hours, both from grease fire in the kitchen . The first was at our hotel on Wednesday night around 11:30, we were finishing last minute practice before the actual competition Thursday when the alarm went off and we had to stand outside for 20 minutes, freezing. We drew 3 fire trucks too :/. Then on Thursday night at the awards banquet at this expo building, there was another kitchen fire. They had it under control from the beginning though, so the security guards told us it was fine and no one reacted XD. Like literally two people at the head table stood up, and everyone else either continued eating or got in line for food XD.
So, feel free to ask questions about the contest.

Someone70 : No, you judge the chickens. There's a section where you have four live chickens sitting there and you have to look at physical clues to see which one is the best egg layer. Then there's a section where you look at ready-to-cook whole chickens/turkeys and judge them on missing parts/cuts, and a section where you identify parts. Then there's eggs, where you grade them on the shell's cleanliness and soundness, then grade them by holding them up to a light and judging their age/quality, and by breaking them out and once again judging their age/quality.
There is, however, also a barbecue contest that I might look into next year.
