This depends on what you did and if it is really bad, then in that case yes. But if it is for something simple or pointless then no, I am not a text every second type person, but it really comes down to whether the abuse the ability of having a phone, and if they do then by all means the parent should take it for a short period of time. Otherwise no because it is a n important means of communication.

I think they should if there paying for them and your being a butt wipe the only time they shouldn't take it away if your going to a big party or something so Ur safe

A cell phone isn't a right, it is a privilege. I hear that. Should have said so myself.

But kids these days seem to think if you take their rights to a cell phone and any for of social media, it is almost like violating Geneva laws of warfare and a human rights violation. It is just so ridiculous.

Did your parents pay for your cell phone? Or did they steal it from a hobo? Did they pay that hobos phone bill?

Does that hobo pay rent to the parents? Does that hobo get fed and clothed by the parents and given shelter? Does that hobo pay for his food? Does he even know how to make food on his own or even make it on his own without the parents?

That hobo might not be their property but he can be a spoiled ungreatful snot nosed brat and the parents should be allowed to take the cell phone away from him in that case.

And no, I am not accusing to be something like that. My good sir. But if that is the only thing he has? Omygosh? Doesn't he still has the free room and board? If not then he can call the cops, get his cell phone and move on to the next town where he will be appreciated more.

To say that a cell phone is a right is disgusting.
Your cell phone is a privilege and if you behave badly or horridly then you do not deserve to have them.

The only reason I would say this would be unfair is if you saved for the money to buy the cell phone in question yourself as in doing
chores or jobs for neighbors.

Due to recent changes in the online community the need to have a cell phone has become a Genuine concern lately.  As much as I hate to say this, I see the problem mostly due to the fact I myself lack one.  Many social networks and websites have been buying each other out lately and the use of a Cell phone number is one of the top Security measures.  Hell many jobs even have begun REQUIREING the ownership of a Cell phone. 
So I do need to change some of my recent thoughts.
the first matter: do you pay for the phone yourself?  [if YES then its your legal property and no one is allowed to take it away legally.]
Second matter: Do you require the phone because of Job or other reason? [if yes than there is another way to keep the phone.]
If both answers to the above are No then YES it can be taken away.  A cell phone in that case is a privilege and not a need. 

However the rate things are going, Soon what once was a privilege may become a very REAL necessity to survive in our modern day world.

WORK EXAMPLE:   I am over at YESCO now, and we in the Letter room get calls when people need letters for their signs.   So in order to speed things up the Runners and many other people have Cell phones in order to pass messages around quickly.  The only reason I don't need one myself is that my job is  a Set station one. I work at and am only allowed to work in one area. But every now and then I do see a time when a phone would have made things easier.
