I agree that a meteor hit earth and blocked out the sun. The plants died, then the herbivores died, then the large carnivores had nothing to eat, so they died. Not all of them died though, some evolved into birds which we now see today (and keep in our houses).

Not to be a geek in all but I think the T-Rex ate all the dinosaurs and once they did, they had no food left,so they grew hungry,so they all died.
And that's what I think happened.Once again,not trying to be a geek.

Well what really happened is that the dinosaurs used to compete with the Pokémon for basic life essentials e.g food and water.  With the power of teamwork the Pokémon slowly slaughtered all the dinosaurs until they became so scared that they created a spaceship and flew all the way to Jupiter. As for the Pokémon they were slowly hunted down by avid Japanese game designers and slowly transferred into Pokémon game boy cartridges until they too also became extinct.

But on a more serious not it has to be Mr meteor

I too am a meteor believer, it hit the deserts which knocked all the dust particles high into atmosphere which not only got carried by the winds but earth, gravel and ground of all sorts were knocked high blocking out the sun so only few plants and animals could survive. The meteorite hit in Mexico ( i think it was Mexico) still has a large crater which is what scientists believe was the actual crash site.

Obviously we are one of the surviving species and although (obviously) we weren't in dinosaur times our ancestors (only if you believe in evolution) survived and turns out only animals under 50kg survived, there was not a distinct line where a 51kg animal died or whatever but most animals under that weight survived as they only needed a small amount of nutrients to keep them alive.
So if a meteor that size does hit us again we'll most probably die out, but don't worry Jupiter's gravitational pull is so large we're likely to be unaffected by meteorite hits until Jupiter's orbit changes slightly which will take millions of years.
And that is the power of an astronomy course and a few documentaries, theres a ton more stuff but it's long and gets boring and anyway that's what I believe :p

My dad always tells me smoking killed the dinosaurs.

But, truthfully, meteor is definitely the most legitimate and believable theory. That being so, it probably hit somewhere east of Present day Texas, while Eart was one giant continent. I'm inclined to believe the gulf of Mexico was formed by the meteor that killed all the dinosaurs millions of years ago.

I'm going with the meteor theory also. What else would wipe out the dinosaurs? It wouldn't be some person who hunted down all the dinosaurs and killed them

Yep, definitely going with the meteor theory. It makes the most sense, and it would also explain why not ALL of them were wiped out. In fact, you probably see more dinosaurs outside than you can imagine.

I think the earth just went threw some drastic changes, Like heating up which melted the Ice age. I believe that they have found evidence of meteors hitting the earth so that is possibility of what happened to them.

I used to think that an asteroid destroyed the dinosaurs, but now I think differently.  I believe that a Super Volcano erupted, just like the one that could be in Yellowstone.

I'm going to weird you all out.  I think there is QUITE a possibility that there are still living dinosaurs.   There is actually tons of evidence out there that suggests it, and I find it all very fascinating.  So I don't think anything killed the dinosaurs except for maybe time and changing environments that they couldn't adapt to very well.

I think it was more possibly that the earth started changeing for them so they were not used to the conditions and there was maybe less to eat for both meat eaters and vegitarians

I'm probably gonna go with the meteorite theory, simply because that's all I grew up around and I haven't even heard of anything else to be honest. But I'm more than open for suggestions as to what happened.

For more than 150 million years, dinosaurs dominated Earth. They were so successful that other animal groups -- mammals included -- had little chance of playing anything more than secondary roles.
Then, 65 million years ago, the dinosaurs vanished from the world forever.
Did they meet a quick and catastrophic end, or did they fade away gradually?

In the search for answers to what killed the dinosaurs, scientists have looked beyond fossils. Geological evidence also holds clues and has contributed to many hypotheses, working explanations of how dinosaurs may have become extinct.
The extinction mystery is far from a simple "whodunit." The same piece of evidence is sometimes subject to multiple interpretations. And, as yet, there is no obvious "smoking gun," no piece of evidence that strongly supports only one hypothesis while disproving all others.

So, I will stick with the scientists ..

What about Human and Dinosaur fossils mixed together? I go with the theory of the Flood killing all but two, and Man hunting "Dragons" which we now call dinosaurs... Also environmental change after the flooding killing them.

I say that when an asteroid hit the earth the dust from the impact blocked the sun and caused everything to become a barren wasteland. I don't believe that just an asteroid of the size scientists say, a volcano, tsunami, earthquake, or what other natural disaster killed them just by themselfs.

Gethyn : You made a SPAM POST ! But still , that made me laugh . Saying " Chuck Norris did it " is really funny even if it only contains 4 words and don't have any periods . But don't spam again okay ? Your still a newbie any way , your still learning ! Have fun posting , the post that are legal and not SPAM !

For me , I think aliens did some thing . Maybe they killed the dinosaurs because of them having so much power . Think about it , if dinosaurs are still alive in the present time , they would've been dead . And if a meteors were really the real cause of dinosaur extinction , why were other animals are still alive and survived ? Why did the only thing died were just dinosaurs ?
