So I just picked up R.A.G.E. and Resistance 3, started playing at work last night, and I gotta say I am actually extremely disappointed in both. It's not that the games suck or anything it's just that R.A.G.E. does not live up to all the hype it had whirling around it before release. It's beautiful, well made (programmed), the weapons are fun, and the enemies are truly ruthless. However, the game-play seems REALLY linear and extremely short. As for Resistance 3, it's possibly the worst purchase of my gaming career, aside from Resonance of Fate. The main character is the most bland, uninteresting, useless seeming protagonist in the history of games. Alex Kid had a better personality. The weaponry is really the only redeeming feature of Resistance and made it worth picking up my controller. The game-play itself though, is just extremely linear, the environments are very cookie-cutter, and everything just seems to be ripped off from every other FPS w/ even a single iota of popularity.
I hate whining about games. But in this day and age, when the economy is at it's worst and we, as a people, strive for some sort of release from our misery, I get really angry when I shell out $60 bucks for a game that was surrounded by so much hype it seemed sure to be a sure thing. I'm not even as hard to please as most. I look at a game as a work of art. I can easily look past crappy game-play/controls/characters if the world it's self is a beauty to behold or vice-versa. It really just seems that no one is really trying anymore. You have to deviate from the beaten path forge your way to the independents in order to find a true gem.
Here's to finding a new Shadow of the Colossus, a new Limbo, and a new game to capture our hearts, minds, and souls.
If Skyrim is even close to this much of a let-down...I very well may have to grow up...and that would suck.
Thanks to those of you that read this and I'm sorry to those of you that agree with what I've had to say. It'll get better.
