Hey, every Tuesday and Thursday I get about an hour of free time where I can hop on the computer at school and play. The only problem is that I cant install the RGR plug in at school this year for some reason. It keeps telling me that I don't have the correct permissions and that no matter where I install it to including a flash drive it doesn't work. If there is a way around this I would love to know. I just seem to mess up the simple things for some reason so I decided to ask for help.

"It keeps telling me that I don't have the correct permissions"

That means that you don't have the authority on that computer to install the plugin. There is probably a way to install it, but you would have to override the school system which would be a very bad idea. When you got caught, you would regret it.

You can probably still play the games that run on Java emulators. Unfortunately, that only includes the older retro games (NES, SNES, GBC, etc).

Yeah, schools typically have a lot of restrictions on their computers. Like a lot restrict certain sites. I know my high school would not have allowed the students to access a site like this. They don't want students to download things onto their computer to keep them working well for as long as possible. If they let students download things all the time, it would cost them a lot more money replacing them every time they became too slow to function well enough.

rename the file to something you would have the permission to open.... like winword.exe or something like that. You may be restricted to opening specific executibles for the express reason that they don't want things being run on the computer. It may be more complicated than that but that used to work on my schools computers back in the day. That's how we used to use telnet

BNuge : it is a really simple solution because it allows the school to pick the 10 or so executible files that kids should be allowed to use and sets the permissions based on the name alone.

It was a such a simple way around it but it worked. It's possible that things have become more sophisticated since then but you never know.

My school has completely blocked executables, and I wouldn't be surprised if his did too. Executables, by default, have no parameters set by Windows, meaning that Windows will allow every single thing that the .exe does. That's why lots of viruses are in the form of .exes. It's possible to crash the entire network by running just one executable.

My suggestion is to get your school's network administrator to install it for you. I dunno how friendly yours is but the one at my school is really friendly. Give him a good reason and he should do it for you.

I think geeogree's possible solution is about the only one you will get on how to bypass the school block. But in all honesty, if your school is anything like mine was, if they find it on a computer, they can track what student account downloaded it. If they are remotely strict on the issue, you can get in trouble with your school. As for the thread, because I doubt anymore solutions will come up, I'll go ahead and close this thread. If you wish to have it reopened, just PM me telling me your reason.
