It's not so much as softened as... We'll i'll give you an example.

In one game I play, called City of Heroes, players have the ability to choose a power set called Super Strength. Now, in issue 5 (Patch 5, whatever it's called Issues) SS let's say... did 50 damage with a normal Jab power. Now in the updated Issue 6, it does 30. Or is slower. Or has crap accuracy.

Basically, roughly translated, it means "Made Sucky" or, "Made Crap", or even better, "It's now complete s***".

Also, Kirby is faster now. (Seems like it) and they changed his aerial-B move. Instead of swinging his hammer Vertically, he does the same thing he does on the ground, which is his double Horizontal hammer spin. You can also semi-control Final Cutter.

Well explained Neyro. It took me a while to figure out how to taunt, I had to look it up in the booklet that came with the game. Some of the taunts are pretty funny though, and even though they affect nothing, their stuff fun to do once in a while.

The lightning itself was nerfed for pikachu however when it hits him it's better. Like the thunder aurua.

Well i guess if you play item Samus might be better... but in competitive play items are generally turned off and faster characters usually do much better.

WoW addictions aside, I still don't see why people were going EPIC CRAZY over Brawl. So it's a better and cooler version of Melee. Big Whoop. The controls for the Wiimote suck anyways, it's only good with the Gamecube controllers. So seriously, huh?

Neyro, the controls are almost the same. Not to mention the control setup where swinging the wiimote uses your smash attacks. And this game beats the S*** out of Melee. The one for N64 does too. Melee was CRAP.
