Okay, when you read this you must be like, "What is he talking about?" Well, what I'm talking about is the fact that the women are healers with 1 HP, 9999 MP, 0 attack, and have spells that heal better than God, which they must use on themselves to not die, or they're archers with 1 HP, 1 MP, and shoot s***. Men on the other hand, have 9999 HP, 9999 attack, and wipe out hordes of enemies with the swing of the ridiculously overused sword. Also, I'm not being a feminist, it's just that I try to enjoy an RPG's story that it's trying to display, but noooo, the girl has to be weak as s*** and have no power in battle, and the men always have to save them.

Don't think I'm backing up my rant? I'll show you examples:

Final Fantasy VII- Aeris has like 120 HP and hits things with an overpriced stick. She then gets shanked and dies before the story even starts.

Final Fantasy VIII(Don't read in case of spoilers)- Rinoa, towards the end, is fused to the final boss so you can't kill the final boss unless you "rescue her" by healing the boss which makes the battle take two hours. In-game, you better have 99 Phoenix downs, she's going to effing die every 2 minutes unless you pimp her out with the BEST upgrades and don't focus on any other characters.

Grandia II- Ok... Right away, the blond girl with healing powers died in 1989 when anime started whoring it. She ends up nearly dying and the good story turns into a goochy-smoochy soap opera.

Tales of Symphonia (Don't flame, that game is my fave)- Already I've said the blond girl with healing powers is a dead fad... Now they add crystal fairy wings and... Frisbies?! Just play it for ten seconds if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Lunar: Legend (GBA)- Luna sings in a church, gets captured by a villain... Blah blah blah, the end.

Final Fantasy X- Tidus looks like a woman but carries a sword, has high HP in his sphere grid and can wipe s*** out in a second. Yuna hits things and they barely flinch.

am i tired of sexism in rpgs... i think that these tendancies that developed are based on what you see in real life. Like real life but they do differ from time to time ie: tifa is not exactly a spellcaster if you focus on her limit break

Yeah, but they should change it up a bit. Maybe make strong women warriors and a weak elf mage guy.

This is why I firstly, never play singple player RPG's, they don't work out UNLESS it's Oblivion, but thats the only case. Second, I play the games for fun, and I rarely notice these types of things, which is the norm. Although yeah, this does happen a lot, just don't go NOT buying a game just cause of the stereotypical sexism, thats kinda dumb, cause it's like saying 1 mispelled word ruins the game.

EDIT: Iblock, PLEASE change your font color, I can barely read it with that shade of gray. At least make it black.

Ok... For the record in FFVII Aeris is a "Flower Girl"... ive never really seen a 'butch' flower girl... so that isnt really inaccurate. Also, if played well you can reach a very high level of power with Aeris before she dies. I reached her LEvel 4 limit break and achieved her greatest weapon. As well as that, i was able to use her Limits to further my teams limits. And, in FFX, i beefed my Yuna, after her White Mage Path i took her along Aurons path and made her my 2nd most powerful character. It really depends on what you make of a character. In an RPG, the elements of reality are only a basis, you can change your character to whatever you want as the game goes on.

And your forgetting about FFX-2, where all 3 leads...4 leads... where females and, despite 1 being rather weak (Yuna) the other 2 were rather useful. (Rikku... and... other chick...)

Truth is, gamers dont want a game where the Male lead is weak, and the Female lead is strong. She has to depend on him so that a love story can be created. (Hence why in FFVII Tifa and Cloud didnt work maybe ) because every story, needs to be driven by something... Most every Final Fantasy is driven by love. Ultimately, you will never see the end of this. If it helps, the base stats in games like World of Warcraft are generic by class and race, not by gender.

First thing: Games don't get bought 85% of the time because the story looks like crap.

No your right, they probably play it becaue its enjoyable and made enjoyable by a story line. A tough female lead and a weak male lead probably wont make an enjoyable story, hence why we havent seen it. Despite what you think about sexism in RPGs its working for the developers. Besides, we all need to realise reality ISNT like a video game... Every male isnt super strong and eveyr women isnt super weak. The military fixed all that.

If you look at the averages men are stronger than woman and will beat them in fights. They have more muscle and less fat. Not to mention 10 lbs fun bags than slow them down. So if an rpg was supposed to be accurate to real life... the woman would end up being weaker.

Now lets look at sports. There are separate divisions with everything because men are better at almost all physical activities. Men track records are far better than womans, or if you take a sports like bowling and golf... Men are still a cut above.

maybe you're just looking in the wrong place... most japanese based RPGS are bound to follow the anime code when it comes to characters. But if you look at companies like Bioware (knights of the old republic, Mass Effect, Jade Empire) its as if they're not even aware of conventions, but it could be argued that a sci-fi platform allows more flexibility with characters

Yes, however almost all of the RPGs in the world are Japanese-derived in one way or another... Usually in the worst ways.

If you think about, sure we derive some of our - hold on, why am I saying "we" and "our"? I'm not american, I'm russian! - your games from japan, but you like to change and customize the games so far that they become practically yours. That includes the whole male and female thing. With most japanese derived games, specifically Lunia, and others (Don't play too many of em cause the translations suck), the female is the Healer, while the male is the Warrior. But with your games, like Oblivion (God bless the companie(s) that made that game), you can be whatever the hell you want and you'd be as equal as your opposite sex counterpart. So... yeah... I lost my train of thought...

I know. I love American RPGs better . KOTOR and Jade Empire were a couple of the best RPGs I've ever played because the story didn't rely on "the nine stones must be collected to seal the demon, you'll be accompanied by some random ninja b**** that you hate along with another girl with a skin-tight space suit with a rack the size of a magazine stand, and the villain has hair longer than he is in height and it will be hot pink but he'll still be a badass." By the way, Tales of Symphonia is getting a SEQUEL! And it's coming to AMERICA!

Hey Oblivion has been accused of sexism because the female characters have different stats. They have less strength and more of other things. So.. you've got your information wrong there as well.

As far as RPG's not being Japanese...

11. All the other Elderscroll's games.

Apart from that most of the computer based RPG dating back decades are American. Furthermore there are probably over 40 Western RPG's Based on Dungeons and Dragons. As far as Japanese RPG's... maybe they are the majority if all you've had to deal with recently is the gaystation. On the gaystations... I can't really point out any western rpg's other than Oblivion... I have no clue.
