WarpStarFerret : Last time the Bills went 3-0, everybody was getting this excited too . They ended 7-9 on the year. I honestly hope they finish 8-8 or 9-7. That will get them 3rd place and a possible chance at a wild card.

JayOhEssAitchYouAy : I live about 50 minutes away from Orchard Park. I live about 3 hours from Pittsburgh, and there are alot of their fans here too. And remember, Bengals aren't a walk in the Park. Andy Dalton looks pretty good and Cedric Benson is a good running back.

JayOhEssAitchYouAy : Yeah, I wouldn't say the Bills will beat the Bengals just because they beat the Patriots--They might have a "big win hangover" and drop a lousy game against Cincy. That, and the Bills officially have a giant target pasted onto their backs now.
It's definitely a winnable game, just don't count it as a sure win. The Patriots counted this past week as a sure win, and look what happened there...

... I find it amusing how the NFL discussion thread turned into the Buffalo Bills discussion thread.

WarpStarFerret : That's because honestly they are the biggest surprise in the NFL this year.

On the Patriots though, Bill Belichick loves games like this where his team loses to somebody they shouldn't. He always seems to turn it into a really good winning streak of some sort. Like last year, they lost to the Cleveland Browns...badly. And they went 14-2.

No other teams have really been discussed or I gladly would discuss other teams.  I try not to be as biased as possible.  Hate the Patriots but, I'm a fan of their Qb's.  Both Brady and Mallet.  Both former Michigan players.  Mallet transferred but, I still remember him as a Wolverine.  I hope he ends up having as good of a career as Brady and doesn't just get thrown in the trash like Cassel.

Okay then... So, who thinks the Colts are officially on the fast track to the #1 overall draft pick without Manning, and that the Texans look to be all but a lock for that division? The Colts might get a middling draft pick depending on when Manning comes back, but I DO think the Texans win that division this year. It's the best chance to win the division for a non-Colts team in a very long time.

JayOhEssAitchYouAy : I love Mallet as well, I think he will be a better QB than Cassel. Did you see him play some this preseason. He looked awesome. Cassel only got "thrown" away because he would have still been the back up to Tom Brady for many years, and because he could get a starting job elsewhere. You may be the first person I've ever known that HATES the Patriots, but LIKES Tom Brady.

WarpStarFerret : I wouldn't count your chickens on the Texans being a lock just yet OR the Colts getting the first draft pick. I think both the Titans and the Jaguars will give a fight for the division, and there are plenty of stinky teams that could get number 1. The Colts will get better, and probably finish around 5-11, 6-10.

trouble982 : I don't consider the Texans a lock, I was merely asking who else thought they were a lock. I only stated that I thought they had a good chance to win the division since the Colts' season is already going down the drain without Manning. I also mentioned that the division is up for grabs this year because the Colts aren't in a position to win it this year.

I do think they'll win the division, but I don't consider them a lock. I think the Titans have a shot at winning the division too. I wouldn't count on the Jaguars though; starting this last week, they're starting a rookie Quarterback, and they aren't doing too well.

Also, I already said the Colts have a reasonable chance to get some wins by saying that they had a decent shot at getting a middling draft pick depending on when Manning comes back--without Manning all season, I think they're either 2-14 or 3-13, but I think Manning will lead them to win most of the games he's actually in when he comes back, so I'm expecting about a 6-10 season from them too. Please don't jump to conclusions, you're making a lot of assumptions about my post. I was just trying to open up a new topic.

That being said...

I think there's an outside chance that one or two, maybe even three teams will intentionally scrub the season in the last few games so they can draft Andrew Luck #1 overall, depending on how well he plays this season. I've heard from more than one source that he's supposedly an even better prospect than Manning was when he was drafted, so it's a (very, VERY small) possibility. For the record, I don't think this will happen, I simply said it's possible, so don't jump to conclusions!

It's not a lock for the Texans at all. Nor do I think they will take the division.  The Titans have Matt Hasselbeck a pretty good quarterback and a decent team around him.  He has experience and he's a phenomenal QB.   His career QB rating is 82.7.  He just had no one around him the past couple years Seattle has been sucking.  So, that's a good reason he wasn't getting wins.

Whoever has the better defense is going to take the division.  And I think the better defense out of the two this year is the Titans.  Hasselbeck has completed 78 of 112 passes, has thrown for 932 yards, and has 5 touchdowns so far on the season.  That's pretty close to 300 yards 2 touchdowns a game which are good numbers for a quarterback.

Titans also have the better running game to help kill the clock in tough games when they're up by 3-7 points.  I'm not saying the Titans do take the division but, I think they have a better shot at doing so than the Texans.

... I hate it when I make a 400 word post, and then the connection just... Dies...

Let's see if I can remember it all...

First, any opinions around the league in general?

Second, opinions on the fact that Tebow is the Broncos starting QB? (At least for now)
--Personally, I think it's necessary-the Broncos need to know what they have, and if Tebow does well enough to keep the team out of the top 8 picks or so, then he should keep his job for another year at least.

Third, anyone think the Panthers will be scary in 2-3 years? They aren't there yet, but with how well Cam is playing, they just might be that good in the future.

Fourth, how do you think the other starting Rookie QBs are doing? I think Dalton is doing great so far, and Gabbert is playing reasonably well all things considered. (I don't think Gabbert was really supposed to start until the last four games or so, so this is pretty early for him)

* And that's the condensed version... I think I missed something too. :/

WarpStarFerret : I don't remember where I wrote it, but I thought Dalton would be rookie of the year this year. I suppose Cam Newton has out shined him just a bit . As for Tebow, I think they should have started him from day 1. He's a winner, and almost won them a game against the chargers that they were all but dead in. If Brandon Lloyd catches a 2 point conversion, they probably go to Overtime.

R.I.P. Al Davis. You were the craziest man to ever grace the NFL with your presence.

First things first, as a Raiders fan, Al Davis was a great man even though he destroyed the team year after year.  I used to say "I wish the old man would die already!" jokingly, but I never meant it.  Would never wish anyone such harm.  He's a legendary face to the game of football. Many know his story, many don't, many will learn.  This man will always be remembered though. "Just win baby!"

As far as will the Panthers be scary in the next couple years?  The Panthers are scary right now. Sure, they don't have the record but, any team in the league will tell you, they don't want to play the Panthers.  They'll tell you they don't want to play Cam.  Every game they've lost has been close I think.  Don't think they've been blown out yet.  I know coming out into the draft I said "Cam Newton is an overrated bum!", who knows he may be that man.  He may just be having some rookie luck.  But, for right now, he's certainly proving me wrong.  I'm actually happy he is because he's an exciting Qb to watch.  Never know what to expect out of him.  I thought he was going to be the next Jamarcus Russel honestly.

As far as Tim Tebow getting the starting job, I think the Broncos were doing the right thing.  They let go of Culter to pick up Orton.  So, they were right to let him keep his job as long as he did.  He didn't prove he could hold the spot down, didn't prove he could win, so they were also right to take the job away.  As far as Tebow goes, I don't know if he'll help the team or not.  I don't think he will in my own opinion.  I still feel Tebow is highly overrated, maybe I'm wrong. Who knows?  I'm not saying he can't win games though.  Any QB at this level of play can win games honestly.

I know the Lions are looking pretty surprising. I may jump on the Lion bandwagon myself even though I've always said they're a team to watch for.  That defense is something else.  And now the offense is clicking at full caliber.  This team is one of the most exciting teams to watch in football.  And Matt Stafford is certainly doing his thing for a young gun.  He's playing with poise and he's showing no fear.  I would love to see them take the NFC North and make a run in the playoffs.  Even if they don't make it to the Super Bowl or win the Super Bowl would be cool to see them in an NFC championship game.  Always nice to see a new face in the crowd.

I was almost disappointed when the Bills lost to the Bengals because they certainly shouldn't of lost that game.  A horrible team, although the refs gave it away.  They were on a potential touchdown scoring drive then the refs ruled a catch incomplete that was clearly complete.  Even after the challenge the call remained the same.  But, then they came back and punched a team that should be a dominant force right in the mouth.  They made Vick look like he was an opening day rookie.  This defense is something to look out for.  The whole team is something to look out for really.  I think they lost to the Bengals because they over looked them.  They've only been focusing on all of their big games/harder games.  And they've won all of them.  Hopefully they can keep pushing. LETS GO BILLS!

trouble982 : More than just a bit. Winning is a team effort; you can't put everything on a QB's shoulders, for better or worse.

I agree that Dalton's doing a bit better than I thought he would, though. I knew he'd be pretty good eventually, but I thought he'd start slower than he has. That being said, the top 3 defense that he practices against and that keeps other teams out of the endzone couldn't hurt either, as well as the relatively easy schedule they've had so far. Especially compared to the Panther's schedule. I think the Panther's only "Easy" game was the one they played in a tropical monsoon. THAT is saying something right there.

It isn't just Dalton that looks good, most of the team around him looks better than it did in pre-season. That being said, I don't think they've had much of a true test yet: the best team they've played so far was the Bills I think, and I don't think the Bills were ready for them after such a huge win against the Patriots. They haven't faced a real challenge quite yet.

JayOhEssAitchYouAy : What Tebow brings to the field is an intangible. He's a winner and he's a leader. That's not something I can really describe properly; you either know and understand it, or you don't. The point is that he has a drive to win that Orton didn't have, and that can be infectious. The whole team played better when Tebow hit the field. That says something right there. That being said, how well Tebow can physically play DOES matter. We'll see how he does, but for now he has the intangibles necessary for success.

Also, I think the Bills needed the loss as much as the Bengals needed the win; they needed a wake-up slap to the face before they got complacent and something disastrous happened later in the season.

By the way, what separates Newton and Russel is the fact that Newton has the drive to win--he always gives 110% to get a W in the end. Russel didn't care about that, he just wanted the paycheck from what I can tell. It's the same intangible I mentioned when talking about Tebow, just slightly different.

One last thing... I would not be at all surprised if the Raiders play even harder now that Davis is dead to honor his memory. Their goal won't be just a good season now; they are going to want a title now, and they are going to at least try to go the extra mile to get it.
trouble982 : More than just a bit. Winning is a team effort; you can't put everything on a QB's shoulders, for better or worse.

No one knows it, but the Bills are an awesome team. They may not be able to get to the superbowl, but they have a chance. I would just like to see a team other than the Jets, Packers, Steelers, Patriots, or the Ravens get into the superbowl.

So... I know everybody is thinking it....

Packers gonna do it? A nice zero in the loss column would be cool.

What are all of you guys' thoughts on yet another team getting Tebow'd in the 4th quarter, and on Newton breaking the record for rushing TDs in a season by a QB this week? I think the Broncos just might pull a playoff berth out of this season yet, and I think Newton will make that rushing TD tally upwards of 16+ by seasons end, personally.
