It looks like they will still hold the festivities despite the London riots. Personally, I think it should still be held, but I do not know if the authorities are handling this properly. According to this article from guardian.co.uk, police will be doubling their forces (to 20,000) for the festival and have told everyone who has, directly or indirectly, been associated with the riots to stay away from the carnival. Judges are not allowing bail for more than 80% of cases. Although I think blaming teen gang culture is a bit quick-minded, I do believe it has some influence on the situation.

One citizen that was interviewed for this article did express concern. Because much of the police's forces will be concentrated on the carnival, the woman is worried about other parts of London, such as Brixton where she lives. She did raise a goo point. Will police forces still be able to protect other areas as well as the festival?
