If no one has tried this game before, it's fantastic. I'll post a Youtube video that got me into this game (there's a decent bit of profanity in both the game itself and the commentary, though the game does not have voice acting). Project Zomboid video.

Currently the game is only available as a pre-alpha tech demo, so it has a long way before it's actually finished. But even in such an early state, this game is already fantastic. Give the demo a try and voice your opinion as well. Post a screenshot of your longest survival time and I'll probably throw some Viz your way.
