I got home from school and I go onto my laptop and when I open it up and try to open a file or a link, it would not open it up.  It would just darken the icon image.  I know when I close my laptop it would make the mouse move a little and sometimes click on files, but this was so crazy.  I then opened the start menu and right as I opened it, some of the text were gone.  You know where it says "My Computer, My Pictures, etc." those text were not there and when I try to click on it, it doesn't open.  I moved my cursor on the "all programs" and it says nothing...NOTHING.  And, when I open the start menu, it sometimes closes it and the stuff that are in the bottom right were gone.  I called my dad about this and he told me that it was probably a virus.  I thought I had to do a system recovery, but I didn't want to.  I then turned the power off and then back on and then everything was back to normal.  How freaky was that? I know you would of been shocked about it if it happened to yours.

That is pretty creepy, that sounds like your laptop is pretty glitchy to me. At least it wasn't a virus.

Man that,s really creepy I have been in situations like that cannot be explained like one time my lamp started shaking a little but there was nothing around to shake it

Marcmoney : That is probably the most freaky thing, like when you open up your comp, or get it off sleep/ standbye and a hacker is opening things and moving the cursor. I can't imagine how u must have felt though, that is very unusual.

UserMike : No, the cursor wasn't moving.  I just moved my cursor on the "all programs" to see if something was in it and there was nothing.  It acted like everything was gone in it.  If the cursor did move, I would "Oh my God" a million times.

Yeah this can be annoying and freaky, I agree you think all of a sudden hey what the problem, I also encountered something like that when I to a site once, It was a virus for me. I believe you its really scary at times.

This is weird, but at the same time, I'm glad it wasn't a virus. 

Well, as the above poster suggested, I would have to get it checked out ASAP.

I would do a thorough virus scan just in case, since it does sound like a few that I know of. But yes, definitely freaky. I've had my mouse move on it's own before, but it usually turned out to be the palm of my hand brushing against the little built-in mouse pad on the laptop.

It might be a problem with your hard drive... I've had the same kind of crap happen to me right before everything went kaput.

In my case, the mouse froze up and I couldn't move at all. It made this really, really screechy noise while the programs I had open slowly started to close. I got blue-screened, and the hard drive attempted to repair itself. It suddenly went black. When I started it up, I got a "failed to boot" screen.

It's best to repair/change your hard drive (if that's what the problem is) before it does permanent damage to your computer.

This would creep me out a little bit, but it's not unheard of. It's happened to me too, but I was younger. My mom fixed it somehow.

Either way, get that checked soon...

That's never happened to my laptop, but it did happen to one of my old desktops. =/ My dad checked it out and it turned out to be the hard drive.

Well it's a good thing it wasn't a virus, but maybe try scanning it just in case and getting it checked out by the nerds at the tech store.

I had to send my laptop in for fixing for it kept turning off randomly. Not fun.

I hate virus's, hopefully will never get one.

To the people that told me to check it out.  I am not going to do that because it would cost me money and I do not like spending money on this kind of problem.  Although, it has gotten a little bit better.

the_casualty :  I would not take a chance of trying to repair or change my hard drive because the last time I tried doing something on my laptop, I accidentally either deleted my hard drive (if possible) or formatted it and I was not able to get back on my computer, it would leave a little line dash at the top of the screen covered in black.  I did a recovery on my laptop and it now works.  I do not want to go through that again.

Elara :  I have done some scanning and I do not think that it helped, but at least it got rid of some stuff that I did not need.

TO ALL:  My laptop has been getting better lately.  I think that it finally stops moving when it is asleep, but it does sometimes open up one document repeatedly like about 10 to 20 times.  What I have tried to do is before closing my laptop, I would place my cursor away from the shortcuts so that it wont click on it repeatedly.  It could be the pad on my laptop, I can disable it but I am too lazy to do that.

Marcmoney : I know you said your are lazy, but maybe disable it for a bit just to see if that takes care of the problem?

Elara :  Oh yeah, that should work.  I just tried it out and there is no way I can move the cursor.

Marcmoney : USB mouse? It's what I use... much easier for gaming.
