How close are we looking at here? Technically, to my knowledge, there are no stylistically comparable bands in the mainstream at this point in time, nor in the underground that is receiving a large following. That is a real shame about the current industry: you really got to dig for the alternatives.

If I find something, I will post here, but to my knowledge there aren't many, if any at all...they're likely out there, but just not known well enough.

Sadly there aren't I don't think there are. Only possible band I could think of would possibly be the editors but at a stretch.

The editors are so obviously influenced by joy division and Ian Curtis from JD was a huge fan of Jim and the doors. The guy from editors sings slightly like Jim sometimes too

Not so much modern, but Nick Cave sounds a lot like Jim too and his music verges on being very Doors like so it may be worth checking him out. Do a youtube search for "Tupelo" or "red right hand" by Nick Cave and I don't think you will be too disappointed

To be honest I'm glad nobody these days is trying to emulate OR rip off the doors. Easily one of the most important bands of all time and one of my favourites

I really do not know if there is or ever will be a band like them ever again. I think that they are just to different to be copied.

Though Foster the People has good music and it is different.
