i think the 6th generation. the consoles were cool and i know its stupid but my favourite was the dreamcast, i dont know why it just was a console i never got bored of
Although the N64 was gr8, especally the fact they used cartradges, that way there was no discs to get scratched

oh, I do have to bring this up....

those old consoles still work. You can find an NES or SNES and as long as you have the right cables that thing will work!

I bet if you could find a ps2 in 10 years that it would not work nearly as well as the NES or SNES do right now. And the 7th Generation stuff will not work outside of the 2000-2010 range .

Yup, stuff was built better "Back in my day"....

I feel like the old man ranting on this board.

i totally agree geeogree.
let me join you on my rocking chair
a cartridge based system is going to work like forever so long as its kept in good nick whereas a optical based console will fail due to the laser getting scratched, misaligned, etc.
until they fix it so that laser technology is as good as pins/circuits are, this will continue to be the case.

it's nice to see that someone agrees with me and can explain exactly why my view was true.

So I guess it's not so much that it's made "Better" but just different.... better different in one way at least. You get more out of discs than cartridges of course but I'd rather have a system that doesn't break every 3 months than have the "ZOMG AMAZING GRAPHICS" that the new systems have.

I'll keep my computer and play games on there thank you.

Well cartridges are vulnerbal to dust, but what isn't? But it's a lot easier to dust then to remove finger prints or scratches... Really hate that when it comes to discs

and worst of all, duh duh duh daaaaaaaa.... VISTA, the biggest failure of all

back on topic, one thing i liked about the older generations is that their games don't try to look realistic. it seems the more realistic games look, the less realistic they become. Sony and Microsoft need to stop focusing on the graphics and more on making the games make sense

i liked how there were more anime style graphics.
and how music and, shocker, gameplay were more important then graphics.

off topic again, vista ultimate 64 is ok...

on topic: at least nippon icchi are still doing an ok job at keeping games unrealistic. props to them

Most games of today are made by focusing on things in this order:
Concept, Graphics, Gameplay, Awesomeness, Compatibility.

"one thing i liked about the older generations is that their games don't try to look realistic. it seems the more realistic games look, the less realistic they become."

Wrong...?
Playing System Shock (The Spiritual Predecessor of Bioshock) will not make it look like I'm a real hacker in the game. However Bioshock, with it's realism in some sense, makes me jump 5 effing feet in the air whenever the lights go off, and turn on 5 seconds later with 5 Splicers on my ass.

But I see what your saying, I'm just saying that graphics do contribute to realism.

Also, relating to something earlier in the thread, Cartridges have it's advantages and disatvantages. Cartridges, If I'm corrdct about this, have very limited space for storage, and when water is poured in, they will most likely die. Discs, due to laser technology, can hold massive amount of stuff, and will not immediately die from water.

Everything is subject to dust, however. A Gamers worst nightmare: Dust Dwellers.

Where is the Famicom Disk System. It had games on it. It's a hard choice between the Snes and the Nintendo Entertainment system. Snes for Earthbound, Mario kart, Secret of mana, Secret of Evermore or whatever it was called and Nes for Mario, Street fighter, Football, Super dodgeball and Abadox. I think those were the games names since my nes broke a long time ago with the Snes.

I have a strong preference for the fourth generation. I was alive during the third but a bit too young to properly appreciate it. I do have fond memories of a lot of NES games, but the SNES was the system that really got me into gaming. Genesis was pretty sweet too.

I'm quite fond of the fifth and sixth generations as well. Current gen I only have a Wii, and not many games for it. I'm past the point of family buying my games for me so I get a lot less than I used to.

Most of my favorite games are SNES or Playstation. So yeah, fourth and fifth follows behind closely.
