Originally I thought it was just annoying. It doesn't bother me anymore (probably partially because I've gotten used to it) but also because Ash tends to make rash decisions without thinking them through. This tends to put him in loads of predicaments in the past.

I find it kind of annoying, but then again I find Iris's personality annoying. She is just as much as a kid as he is and
even so it gets annoying hearing her repeat it over and over. I wouldn't be as annoyed by it if she met Ash seasons
ago, when Ash actually acted very childish. But Ash seems to act less childish now so it doesn't really make much sense.

Thing is, you can't apply our years into a cartoon. In the cartoon, it hasn't been that many years. He really is still a little kid. To relate it to something else, think of The Simpsons. That show has been around for over 20 years, but they aren't really any older. They are still in the same school, Maggie is still a baby, etc. I don't find it annoying simply because you can't apply how many years have past for you to the age of cartoon characters unless they specifically have them age accordingly.
