Basically in this thread, tell us what was your first job and how long has it lasted? I actually have a Summer Job, not sure if it is a real job or not, but I cut the neighbor's grass for about $20 every time I do a good job on it.

What is your first job?

Ignoring mowing grass, I worked as a historian's apprentice. Not much to say really though.

Edit: Actually, I just remember before that I worked as a tutor tutoring math and history.

My first job was also a summer job at a carnival in Long Island, New York. I was 15 years old turning 16 and I was working as a host for a dart game at first...then I was moved to several others within the carnival. I wanted to operate the rides but couldn't. I had the job for a few years until I quit.

My first job was delivering local newspapers. I ended up doing that for five years and absolutely loved the exercise involved with it. I could have used the trolley I had, but always chose to use the sack.

My first job was as a lifeguard at the local pool. It was a perfect setup, since the pool was just up a flight of stairs from the high school (town on a hill) and I grew up as a swimmer, so I've come to know this pool well. The job lasted about 6 months; I began late December and worked until the end of summer, when I had to leave to head off to University Land! And now the remnants of that job are memories, dwindling money, and CPR/First Aid certification.

pacman1755 : Well, in my case I began my writing career when I was 12 so that’s pretty much been my focus although I didn’t really think of it as a career back then and it wasn’t until I left school and began writing fulltime that I really accepted it. In regard to a traditional job, I use to work for HSN answering phones and taking orders. It wasn’t a bad job but I was let go so that was a sore issue with me simply because I was let got but the actual job didn’t bother me.

In regard to my writing the lone frustration has often centered around lack of money and lack of being paid adequately despite putting a great deal of time into it. I’m a freelancer and I work a self-imposed schedule where I literally try to cover as much as I can regardless of time differences or if I’m covering something else on the same day. Many people say it’s insane that I put myself through that but I’ve always looked at it as part of paying my dues. I just hope as I’m coming up on 16 yrs as a writer that the paying dues are almost over and that I will eventually land with someone reputable where I can make decent money.

If and when I do reach that level I will consider slowing down a bit and only focus on what I have been assigned to do and such. Maybe then I won’t have to deal with the periodic burn out that I’ve dealt with from time to time. It’s just part of the job and it comes with the territory.

My first job was working at Target. No particular position, just a little bit of everything. After a couple years there, though, they almost always put me in electronics. Working in a retail store got boring so fast.

A rest area attendant. I still work there, but quitting soon because I have another job I just started. It's the worst job ever. Some of these people that come in and visit have no sense or class. One time, some fool didn't even go in the building to use the restroom, he just took a dump in the parking lot. I mean who the hell does that?

My first job was a deli girl at the local grocery store but that sadly lasted only 4 weeks until the store went belly up....  Lol I just laughed at that job.

Then I got a job at a gas station for 3 years until the chain started to fire off all the employees to make way for new employees.... o.O Yes this was in the same town I learned from that mistake and started in a new town with much better job!

My first job was at some electronics company my dad was working at when I was 16. It was just for a week. I can't say much about it because I don't remember much. Except for the chemical Tetraflouroethane. It was used in an air can to blow particles out of electronic equipment like keyboards. I had a lot of fun with those cans.

i meant to say being a rest area attendant is the worst job ever. I like my new job at the Air Force Base. I'm sorta doing the same stuff, but kinda not. I still clean, but I do other task along with it which is why the new job is better. Rest Area Attendant is extremely boring especially around the late night and early morning hours. It's mostly about 3-4 people on average that walk in every hour and the rest are just too lazy to get their butts up to use the rest room so they just go outside which really pisses me off. If they gonna do all that, I might as well leave the darn toilets the way they are. Some people these days. *Shake my head*
