The thread title says it all, who is the greatest artists of all time? There are thousands of artists in history, but the best of all time to me is The Beatles. Ugh...I hate these types of questions. Do not take that personally, as a major part of my nature is to aim for the gray areas and never try to shoot between the black and white sides of anything. I have two/three issues with saying any single musician is the greatest:

1) By saying one artist is the greatest, you are instantly denoting all other artists as inferior.
2) What exactly makes someone or group of people the greatest artist(s) of all time? Actually, what constitutes being an artist in the first place? Is it influence, popularity, charisma, skill/ technical capabilities, knowledge, personality, or simply emotional value? All of these factors and more must be taken into account. 

If you had to aim a firearm at me, however, and forced me to tell you the greatest musician of all time, I would simply say anyone who puts their heart and soul into their art, and does what they does because they loves it. The key definition of an artist, by my personal definition, uses their own vision to mold their persona and forms their art from what they loves and not what others expects to see. That, to me, is the greatest artist: the one who is true.
