I got this subscription for free last summer, some online sign up thing. Anyways...

Electronic Gaming Monthly or EGM as it's more commonly known as is just what it sounds like, a monthly magazine about video games.
Occasionally this game will have some cool stuff, but overall I just don't care for them. They say some stupid stuff in their reviews. I sometimes wonder how much time they spend with games... For example SSX Blur they said the controls don't work.... if you play the game for longer than 10 min you can see that the controls work really well. In fact the method using to turn feels perfect, I changed it to just the analog stick to see how it felt, and it didn't feel right at that point, it felt best at it's default level. There are various other examples of this that I can't recall.
Then they sound like they are on crack sometimes. For example they said something about Fox McCloud not being in Super Smash Bros. Melee... the only problem with that is that he was, you didn't even have to unlock him.... And SSBM was a pretty big game last gen, not like it was a small game.
Then there's their April issue.... let's just say April Fools jokes shouldn't be done by credible sources unless they are totally unbelievable. I didn't believe it, because I know how they are, but many people on IGN boards did and we got threads from them about random people for weeks.
I've listened to them on 1up podcasts, and to me they end up sounding like 12 year olds.

Anyways bottom line: if you still buy game magazines I'd really look elsewhere. Though if you like the immature humor it may be a better fit for you. I wouldn't of got the mag except the subscription was free.

I also have a free subscription to EGM.

They do seem kind of biased sometimes and seem kind of unfair when rating certain games. I like some of the features they usually have though.

I also agree, it does seem like they don't play games long enough.

My favorite Gaming magazine is Game Informer (was subscribed to them for almost 7 years) but since they cost more than EGM, I'm gonna be sticking with Electronic Gaming Monthly for a while longer until I'm willing to spend money on another GI subscription.

GI doesn't cost more than EGM.....

My EGM was free so technically it is somewhat more.

Yeah, but you can't keep getting it free unless you find a new deal for it free.

Yeah I guess. I think I will just go to Gamestop this spring and order a new subscription to GI because I love how they do things and I'm a loyal reader.

I haven't looked at one in a while so I can't tell you.

I ordered EGM for 12 months and right after the last month, I canceled the subscription and switched to Game Informer, because at least they have "Second opinion" and their reviews are larger than a sentence... EGM is just a magazine that only gives good reviews if the developer WHORES free swag and briberies in money/games. Even then, if the bribery isn't enough, then they'll keep the stuff and STILL give the game a s***ty review for no reason. They are way too biased, from ALL 10s to a game that's just a brand to all 3s to a game that's made by an underdog developer and it's a game of quality. My stoner dog could make better reviews.

Yes, EGM sucks. In my opinion, the best gaming magazine was PSM, but I heard that they went out of business and Sony now owns it and the name is now just Playstation, the magazine (). That sucks because PSM was an independent magazine therefore they didn't have to be biased... but now that Sony owns it... yeah.

I don't like most of the real life magazines about gaming I read. Really I can't find any good internet sits I like. IGN and gamespot both have way too many adverts, that is just unacceptable in my book. After reading too many bad reviews on ign I boycotted the site.

What's unacceptable is the fact that Gamefaqs(Gamespot's other site) wants you to submit content but 99.999999999999% of the content you submit gets rejected. In my opinion they're all stuck up losers who need to remove the advertisements that suck up the screen and hit me in the face. GI is the only one I read.

I submitted a tip for Smackdown vs Raw 2008 and they put it up...... UNDER SOMEONE ELSES NAME! (It was worded EXACTLY how I put it and everything).

I have been a Nintendo Power subscriber for many years now (since the N64 days). They are still just like they were before. Not much has changed with NP, and it will still continue to be my magazine of choice.

What turned me away from EGM, was when they swore up and down that Square Enix was remaking FF7 because of the E3 demo for the PS3 graphics, even though Square has completely and totally denied such a thing. Does anyone realize what I had to put up with with so many uninformed EGM readers running around saying "They are remaking FF7! My magazine said so!"

Well, it really shut them up when EGM printed their retraction to that statment!

I posted a review that I half-assed and they put it on there. Then I worked hard on another review and it was flat-out rejected. They are there just to piss you off.
