Pokémon Adventures is a manga written for the Pokémon world. It has similar aspects of both anime and games.
From Bulbapedia:

"Unlike the anime, which, though drawing much inspiration from the games, does not follow them exactly, Pokémon Adventures is a mostly game-based manga, with the fifteen main characters taking their names from the main series games, and their various adventures tending to stay restricted to their home region. Also unlike the anime, which has gone to great lengths to indicate the danger of a legendary Pokémon being captured, the main characters of Pokémon Adventures have captured and sometimes use their own legendaries, much as the player can in the games. Pokémon Adventures also contains darker elements than other media, including certain characters and some Pokémon actually dying."

Well there you have it. As seen above the main characters are named Red, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Emerald and so forth. Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri has been quoted, where he stated, "This is the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey." Game producer Tsunekaz Ishihara also praises the series, "I want every Pokémon fan to read this comic!"

Strangely enough, the company currently translating the comic from Japanese to English is 'Viz Media', and you can read full-length issues all the way up to Chapter 422, the beginning of Platinum's adventures, at the link at the bottom of the post. New chapters are being added all the time as soon as they're translated. I've read 2/3 of the way through the Red, Green, and Blue Volume, and I must say, I'm enjoying it.

It is a great Manga, I've been to a few Game Shack places, where some kids go just to read it online. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get into the story. Guess I'm so used to Team Rocket being the villain's, and not some of the GYM leaders. But apparently that was the original idea for the Pokémon games, for most of the GYM leaders to be the bad guys against Ash. And actual deaths, blood and gore. Not the fun loving Pokémon we all know and love. Course have to be kid friendly in the United States.

Makes me wonder what Pokémon would be like if the tv show was like the Manga?

I like chapters 1-4 so far. been just barely reading while doing wifi battles. . But still it's good.
