This may belong under another board but it is sports and I figured it could fit in here. I also have doubts that I will get any responses but I'll try.

Schools make millions off players and players are rewarded with education. What they all want is money to pay off debts immediately. Look at Jim Tressel and countless other schools breaking rules to get good players.

Why not just allow players to get paid? Who's with me?

A lot of those players are getting free educations because of their athletic ability. They got athletic scholarships. In essence they are getting paid to play. Not all of them obviously but the best are. That's not different than the other people get scholarships (the really good ones at least).... they are the best in the field in which they got the scholarship.

Very bad idea for them to get paid for several reasons.

1) It's not nice to teach greed in schools, maybe it is, I dont know but I'm against it
2) Lots of people will sign up and abuse the system and will never want to graduate ever
3) They get their education paid for, so its a partnership effort both parties are giving something to one another

Plus, if they get paid millions then what is the point in graduating when they are making money off their unfinished college education?

School is not about making money, its about getting educated. That is why the system is corrupt most people view it as a way to rank in the cash. How about not getting any cash and doing something important in life to benefit those who are not so fortunate?

Lot of people cant afford education and a lot of people will never make millions. If society continues to live in this state of mind where money and fame is the ultimate goal should probably think about what they are doing to the people around them.

I think if anyone should get paid in school it should be those who are CREATING BUSINESSES not assisting in billion dollar corporations such as the NFL.

As a former college athlete... that would have been cool. However...

I have to say no. I got a large scholarship that saved me 25,000 dollars. I still owe 15,000 but that's not the issue, I got a half scholarship for my "academic" ability, even though I was dumber than a chalkboard.

I got half of my education for free when I attended. That's enough I feel.

I don't think they should because
1. they wouldn't have enough money for other things if they did.
2. most of the athletes get scholarships for there ablitys anyway.
3.they wouldn't want to graduate therefor decressing there preformance in class.
and costing the school even more money.

Meh, I don't think so. I've never really liked it that plenty of athletes get paid to play and they don't need to be smart at anything other than sports....that's always bothered me since I'm a smart person and not that athletic.

Eh, I think that the scholarships that are sometimes given are enough, I think that it promotes them still getting an education even if they are playing sports.
Education is power in that respect.

They should get paid

I don't think college athletes should get paid because then they'll just go to college for the money. They won't want to better their education.

What bugs me is that I have seen so many people get full ride scholarships because they can throw a football, shoot baskets, etc. But then there is someone who can have the potential to revolutionize their field of study has to be thousands of dollars in dept to get through school. I'm not saying no athlete can do the same, because there really are a lot of highly intelligent athletes. But that doesn't change the fact that you see so many get those benefits and all they want to do is go pro, and someone who is actually there for the academics gets squat. 

I think college athletes should get paid. Nothing like the pros just enough for tuition and a dorm, books, food ect.

College coaches get to profit off the team’s success. Some get TV and radio deals and other perks. It should be the same for
players. They should get paid for their time and efforts they are the reason the schools make all the money they do.

And if they would get paid, then that would end all of the crap going on now like multiple game suspensions and such.....

College athletes should not be paid at all, for one reason some of them are still irresponsible with money, and for another, they play for fun in college, not just for all the money.  You should have to work to be paid, like in the pro leagues.

They get their education paid for, at least partially. If they want more, I can see full ride education, but nothing more than that. I think it is unfair to the other students. We don't pay the honor students for being smart (though I wish they did, then I'd have no money problems), so they shouldn't pay them for being on a sports team.

I don't think so. It wouldn't be fair to the other students. College athletes can get scholarships or enough to pay off loans, at the most. I don't think that they should get any more than than. =| I don't even see it fair that some of them get full-ride scholarships to begin with. I personally value intelligence more than athletic skill.

I think they're fine not getting paid. If they're amazing, then they may have gotten scholarships anyway. If they're good enough to earn money for it, they'll get drafted to the NFL.

Also think of it from the other side. If colleges had to pay their players, they would either cancel their program or school prices would go up. Not exactly fair to us non-players.

I agree with the fact that they do not get paid beyond their scholarships for playing. I think it is payment enough that they are getting a free education (whether they take it seriously or not) for playing a sport, so they are fine not getting paid extra.

I do have a slight problem with the fact that all of them are getting fully paid scholarships though, because I believe most college athletes do not care about getting the education, they only care about the sport and hopefully being able to go pro. I think intelligence is much more important than athletics (although I am a sports-nut of sorts).

I agree that they should get paid money. I don't believe that they should get paid a TON of money, but enough to make some quick cash, especially since it's kind of their job if you think about it.
