I just wanted to invite myself to the party here and introduce the man in the mirror.

First of all, I'm into a bunch of random items, such as video games, Disney parks, and, last but not least, the band Genesis. You may know their singer, Phil Collins.

I first found out about the Vizzed board through the "Retro Games" section. Soon enough, I realized I could only play 5 games a day, as you probably know. After a bit of decision making, I ended up joining the forums (mainly just to play more games).

Your first experiences on Vizzed are similar to mine. I signed up for Vizzed when I realized I could only play Pokémon Emerald a few times before making an account.

I must ask, gregandrob, could you explain to me what the band Genesis is like? I can't say I am familiar with them, but Phil Collins possibly --I don't know why.

You couldn't have asked a better person that question, save the band members themselves!

They started out as a school band back in 1967 in London, England. Their first manager, Jonathon King, suggested the current name and pushed them in the direction that the Beatles and the Moody Blues went, albeit with less success.

After one album (that would be a expensive collector's item if it wasn't for the stubborn re-releases every year by King), they faked a break up and joined "Charisma", now part of "Virgin Media". With them, they made longer and more complex songs that fall in the genre of "Art Rock" or "Progressive Rock", such as a 23-minute bombardment of keyboards and guitar called "Supper's Ready".

At one point, Genesis made a rock opera supposedly abut a half-Puerto Rican living in New York City that has to go through the most unusual adventures to find and gain the trust of his brother, John, though the lyrics are too metaphorical and poetic for that to be certain. This album was the breaking point for singer Peter Gabriel (yes, the guy that made "In Your Eyes"), and he left in 1975. Promptly, over 200 people had auditioned for lead vocals, but none were close to matching Gabriel.

Eventually, Phil Collins, the lowly drummer, stepped up from the tom-toms and decided to sing for the group. He had already sang lead on a few numbers, but now he would try to take the place of a man who went on stage wearing a red dress and a fox mask! He did well though, gaining a hit US single in 1978 for the song "Follow You, Follow Me".

This was the year his wife killed his trust in her, and Phil was forced to divorce from her. While on a year's break from Genesis, he recorded a set of home demos. Two ended up on the newest Genesis album, while most were put on a new solo album for Phil. The one most people know is "In the Air Tonight" (which is not about a guy drowning).

To cheer him up, Genesis started exponentially rising in popularity, and, in 1986, "Invisible Touch" became their only #1 single in the States. By 1996, however, Phil was getting old and losing his hearing, so he left and was replaced by Ray Wilson. The only album Ray sang on continued the upward spiral in Europe, but failed to make an impact in the US. Genesis finally broke up after 32 years, but not for long - Phil came back for one last tour in 2007!

Sorry if that was long and off topic, but this is nothing compared to the full history. I have a whole book about these guys that is as thick as a dictionary!!
