iv seen a few comments etc about whether sites are safe or not etc and personally iv never had this problem.i use firefox with WOT app(web of trust)installed, its good because if, for instance, you google gaming sites, beside evry result is a little circle.Green means users have had no problems, orange mean they have had a few problems, and red means stay the hell away from this site.
if you click on the circle it opens a new tab which shows you all the comments people have made about it.
You can read them, each commentor has to choose a category e.g spam, bad experience, very good, trustworthy etc.
anyone with the app can rate a site meaning people like you have given there vote.
an example, i have rated vizzed as full trust, vendor reliability,privacy and child safety.i googled vizzed and clicked the circle and found two other comments saying that the site was very good, i added my own which you can see here(unless you have to have the app to view it, i dont know but try anyway:

theres also an app called flagfinder on that page which is cool because it puts a flag of the nation housing the server of every site, for me vizzed. com shows a u.s flag, but you dont need that app, im just pointing it out .

also this isnt advertising, im just pointing you to a way of enjoying a safer web experience, think of it as a 1st line of defence, before your antivirus, asuming you dont have this already, anyway, recomended.

hackerman : im sure you wont be disapointed,its kept me away from many sites i was going to visit,including one link a certain vizzed member (who i wont name) posted.
