Over in the city that I live, and in the school I go in, it's... to put it bluntly, nearly suicide to say that you are homosexual. Good grief, everyone hates Homosexuals over here; which is why I stay in the closet because to anyone physically near me because I am one.

I here so many homophobic statements, or insults, etc. I hear: "Wow, that's so gay" at least 17 times a day on average, no exaggeration. I really do wonder if it's really from hate, or if it has become like some sort of like a "meme" to people to insult homosexuality. The reason I think this (or it could just be my wishful thinking) is because I heard someone say a homosexual insult near me at one time (happened to be on the city bus as I was on my way to school). I had the guts to speak up to say that I was gay, and pretty much to keep such insults to themselves at least. The person apologized sincerely.

Still curious on people's reactions, it wasn't too hard to find such an insult on the internet, of course. And with the same thing I said in real life, I wrote in text, and pretty much got laughed and insulted at -- by a bunch of people considering I was only talking to one, people joined in like it was a scene with a playground bully.

There seems to be an extreme amount of discrimination against gays. I can't help but always relate it to how black people used to be discriminated back in the older days; of course, nobody is being enslaved, or killed (except for some psychotic individuals, but a few people doesn't determine the opinion of a large society). However the amount of insults, that at least I see, and get does make me extremely uncomfortable, and at times, feel unsafe. I have had moments where I was nearly physically threatened just because I said was homosexual. And I have been insanely cyber bullied online for it to (although easily ignorable to me).

I can't really assume what other people think and go into much context. I'm not good at that, and personally don't like delving into possible thoughts of whether people dislike who I am or are just taking it way too far as a lot of people tend to do. I can only really state my own experience as a gay student to add a little more context into this thread.

Well, I think that the U.S. is a majority of Christians unless I'm wrong. I specifically remember hearing/reading that many Christians (a lot of other religions too) do not tolerate homosexuality simply because it's against their beliefs. Unless the Bible changes, which is impossible, most Christians might still think it unacceptable. Also, there's some cases of people that just say it's unnatural, but it isn't REALLY. Sure, it's impossible to have a child, but there exist many animals that have homosexual relations. Since animals aren't bound by morals because they make decisions based on instinct, it could be considered natural. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_displaying_homosexual_behavior

Well I think some homosexuals have it good like those that work in the fashion industry from what ive learnt through tv shows which is probably untrue but people even pretend to be homosexual to get jobs in that kind of workplace, but as for social tendencies I doubt it will stop anytime soon sorry, social differences will always be persecuted and although there are now changes in some churches becoming more liberal I think homosexuals are slowly getting more freedoms like gay marriage is now allowed (sorry I don't know if gay is offensive, but it feels weird saying homosexual too many times) but yeah homosexuals seem to be getting a lot more freedoms and its become a lot more acceptable than in the past few decades, nothing will change in the short term but maybe over the next few decades it will keep changing so by the time you have children they may live in a world where homosexuals will be treated exactly the same, people that are bi seem to be treated with more respect than straight people I find though just an observation :p

warmaker : I know this is late. (Internet issues) But I don't mean it to sound contradictory like that. I just grew up around peopling calling them gays (And other words I will not say). What I was really saying is. If people have problems against male homosexuality. They should be against Female homosexuality. I honestly have no problem with homosexuality. So far I still don't see very many gay marriages in Lousiana. If I'm missing something. Fill me in, but I'm taking it that LA doesn't approve of the gay marriage yet.

Natas : My question was a little broader but your perspective is Louisiana.

I mean, homosexuals, gays, whatever, are on tv all the time.  They're in movies.  we're moving toward a society that thinks, "Okay, gays are fine."

Is that not even close to what you see where you live?

warmaker : Not very many around here. They are still against it. I guess you can say Louisiana is one of the state that is still against homosexuality. Yes I see it on TVs, movies, ect. That's just the modern world anyways. Things change and from what you are saying that we are more acceptable of homosexuals. We're not throwing the bible at them. Well it seems even I'm confusing myself at this moment. I'll leave it be until I can grasp the understanding of what's going on.

When will they be accepted? Maybe in the future...or have they already been accepted in the common world, you see homosexuals all the time, in the movies, tv, etc. Maybe the world is developing the tolerance of the homosexual life style, but we dont know it yet

We'll see more and more states allowing gays to marry and accepting them in the next decade. But until the younger people who are more accepting of gays begin to take high government positions, real nationwide change won't happen.

I'm not suggesting that everything is peachy... but I think we should all be thankful that being gay is no longer "against the law" to the point where you can actually be killed for it.

There are still many many countries around the world that are so intolerant towards homosexuality that they kill people over it. Be thankful for the progress that you've made. As "intolerant" as we think some people are over here.... there are people willing to kill a gay person just because they are gay.

Throughout the entire U.S., it won't happen for a LONG time. There will always be that group of people that hate these people because they're selfish idiots.
