on the 300th anniversary of the union millions were celebrating.
Just 4 years later and the future is less certain.
In scotland, the 2nd biggest country in the united kingdom and the region containing over 70% of the uk's oil reserve,(the biggest in europe) the local elections are a historic first.the scottish nationalist party achieved a majority in the regional parliament, the first party to ever achieve a majority in the country.
The reason this is so significant is this party desire an end to the union and have declared they will hold an independence vote later in there term.
This would significantly weaken the rest of the uk,and america could be forced to search for a new ally to support it around the world.
This could also catalyse further breaks in the union,as wales has been slowly leaning in that direction, albeit less so than scotland.
Far more significant than the royal wedding, yet far less coverage, you have to laugh,=)
Aditionaly i did say that the royal wedding would anger scotts, the statistics show a sharp rise in snp support following the wedding.
Edit-just to give some background/pointless trivia,it is estimated that there are 60 million people of scotish decent in north america.50 of canada is french descent so a maximum of canada could be no more than 20 million scotts, that means that at minimum there are 40 million us americans of scottish descent, one of the largest national groups and contrery to popular belief larger than the irish american numbers.
Other nations of large scottish populations include eastern europe, australia and newzealand.
On a historic scale during the age of the british empire 1 out of every 4 war ships in all the oceans were built in scotland.
This just to dispel any possible belief that its insignificant.
On a slightly guilty note i have to admit, during the american civil war most of the confederate ships came from scotland(hangs head in shame, lol)
