I have a Xbox 360 Pro, one of the first models.

I had the RROD 3 or 4 times.

Plugging it in and out seems to fix it almost every time.

I have only gotten the red rings of death once and it completely ruined my day, It made my xbox unusable and since I had no money to replace it or get it fixed I had to go almost a year without playing Xbox live.

My first xbox had many , many ring of death's. The first time it stopped
working . I didn't play it for 2 days than I was able to turn it on again.

I'm sure the red ring sucks, but I have never gotten it. Although my first and only 360 was the 360 Slim, and that has had very few problems with the red ring, and the majority of them were shown was caused to people not giving them the proper air circulation so it just overheated. That is why my Slim is not kept in a compartment when I play it. It is out in the open so it can breathe properly.

I don't have an Xbox 360 and this is probably partly why I don't have one. It has to such especially for gamers who play for hours and hours out of the day who have to deal with their systems heating up.
