Is or was their a game out there that you didn't think much of and therefore didn't really play, and then when you did play it, it totally changed your perception on the genre or just video games in general?

For me I would have to say King's Field for the Play-station, I had seen others play it, and I didn't like the idea of having a First Person point of view while hacking and slashing with my sword or wielding mighty spells. I liked the more 3rd person view being able to see everything around my character, then my brother brought it home and let me play, i fell in love!, and ended up playing it to the end several times, and buying its sequel and playing that which had i not found it i probably wouldn't have played either.

Two games at the same time actually. I had bought FIFA world Cup '98 and Final Fantasy Tactics for the Play Station. I had never been into soccer games or strategy games. Both were on sale at the time so I gave them a try. I ended up playing the FIFA game non-stop and still love soccer games to this day. As you well know since I made you start playing them too, hahaha. But FF:Tactics surprised me the most. I fell in love with the style of play and the story line. It was a painful process for me to get into the first part of the game, but once I got through a couple fights and started getting the classes and tactics(he said the name of the game in the description of the game!![weak Family Guy reference]) of the game it was a blast. By the time you watched me play I had spent hours and hours perfecting my style of domination.
I had bought King's Field at the used game store we used to go to all the time, before they moved locations causing them to go out of business...location, location, location. I got it because I had never played a 1st person hacker before and the pictures looked interesting on the box. I think I had seen an add about the game too at some point in a game informer. I was definitely pleasantly surprised with it.
