i got a windows xp computer and i just wont to know how to open ports. if you know or if there is lots of ports can you tell me plz.

If you don't know how you probably really shouldn't be doing it. I'm pretty sure there are lots of ports. If you have Service pack 2 and are trying to run a program that accesses the internet Windows Securtity should ask you if you want to allow it to run.

You have to go into your firewall settings, regarless of your firewall, and set an Advanced Rule for a particular program or port... For example, i set an advanced rule for Internet Explorer with my firewall so that it blocks all its access to the internet..

If you disable your firewall, all of them should be open
Do you want to open them, for a game or somthing, or open them on someone elses computer, sorta like a hacker?

Yeah, usually ports are desired for specific games played over a LAN or the interweb, but sometimes it's instant messengers like trillian causing the problems.

Disabling the firewall might be handy as a temporary solution, especially if you don't know the right ports. But sometimes (on some ISPs), just bringing down the firewall can cause your machine to display the following message;



And you will have 60 seconds to save your work (practically impossible, especially in photoshop with 15 images open) before microsoft decides that it's necessary to erase EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE IN THE PAST FIVE HOURS...

Not that I have had any personal problems losing productivity... But how stupid is it for Microsoft to have programmed this little easter egg into their OS... And then given only 60 seconds (not like you can ever change the number of seconds)... They obviously think that the system is stable enough to use for another 60,000 milliseconds... Why not 120,000? Why not 250,000? Why not indefinitely? Because they're MORONS is why.

Theres a porcess you can shut down from taskmanager, and it will do the same thing. Might be lsass.exe.... As said in the image.

Lowell that's actually a virus. I had to fight that off at one point. It was annoying. You can stop that if you have Service Pack 2.

That's a "virus" called Windows XP (without SP2).
You shouldn't need a Service Pack to run your operating system productively.
Not if they got it right the first time.
I'm a large advocator that patches are LAME.
