If you are planing on a particular career you love how much would it pay you in todays economy? And if you already have a job how much does it pay? And to both persons I ask this..is that salary sustainable? As in could you support yourself or a family with that much income? And is it worth it if you'd be away from your family for a while?

The basis of this question comes from my own wonderings of my future salary as an Oceanographer with a starting pay of $74,000 USD a year (With a Masters degree) and raising to a potential of $99,000 USD a year. However I would be whats known as 6 in and 6 out, as in 6 months at home and 6 months out at sea at who knows where. I know some people in the military may have wrestled with this issue in their minds as well so I thank any of you who may reply with you're words of wisdom on the matter.

I want to know would like you all who read this thread to think of these questions and how they may apply to you even if you do not reply to it.

I thank you for your thoughts and opinions.

People love pets and a lot of people have them, so i'll be okay as a veterinarian, methinks.
