Hey everyone! Nezumi here, or rather, Maxwell! I decided to make this general thread about the Scribblenauts series since it's not the most widely known game, but still deserves attention.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the series, the original Scribblenauts is a DS game where you play as Maxwell, and, armed with your repository of verbal knowledge, you must obtain all the Starites in the game. Between you and your goal are a multitude or puzzles. So how do you solve them? You just write what you need, and it appears! Whether your word is cat, machine gun, rocking chair, black hole, nuke, giant enemy crab, or even Cthulhu (hello, H.P. Lovecraft fans), it appears on the screen for you to utilize! With over 22,800 words in the game, the only limit is your imagination! For crying out loud, you can write a large number of memes, ranging from Monorail Cat to Leeroy Jenkins!
The sequel, Super Scribblenauts, introduced, among refined controls and deeper levels, one thing that changed the whole game: ADJECTIVES! Now you can make a red fighter jet, a furious tomato, or even (wait for it) a supersonic hovering indestructible copper obnoxious militant light orange Shoggoth! That's right, you can stack adjectives on a single object, making it almost unrecognizable when placed next to an unmodified one!
Now what is this thread about? Well, much like Jeremiah Slaczka, the game creator, I'm gonna leave that up to you. After playing through these games in their entirety, I have a lot of knowledge on the subject. So how do you want to respond?
You could:
-Ask about a specific level and how to solve it in Advanced Mode (where you must complete the level 3 times without repeating any words)
-Try to stump the dictionary (I would be happy to try out your words. Just remember: nothing vulgar, inappropriate, or copyrighted will work, and neither will proper nouns, with the exceptions of the developers and a few historical figures)
-Post your favorite objects or contraptions (I'm partial to an autocannon glued to an oil well; it spreads the bullets to repel the zombie horde!)
-Ask about certain elements of the games (I haven't covered the level editor much, for example)
-Suggest words that should have been in the game except for the rules stated above (i.e. sending a T-rex after your least favorite celebrity)
-Ask for my list of favorite words (Seriously, I have some weird ones. Rabauld? Flare gun? Don Quixote? The list only gets weirder from there.)
-Basically anything you have to say about either game
So, in leaving you with the option of how you want to reply to this thread, I will sign off by quoting Jeremiah Slaczka:
