WHY are you Republican?
WHY are you Democrat?
WHY do they hate eachother?
WHAT makes YOU think that one is better than the other?
WHAT is wrong with Republicans?
WHAT is wrong with Democrats?

Lets all put our parents aside for a moment, and just laugh about all of this.

Well I guess most of the public perceptions of each party come from the last several terms of poloticians and presidents.

I don't think many people in washington hate each other... Its just when you get to extremes. Like Oreilly says, the far left is as dangerous as the far right. Or he usually says that the other way around. BUT for those of you who don't know...

We get our "Right" and "Left" sayings from the UK Parliment, who has 2 main parties, and they sit on the "Right" and "Left"

If you ask me... I would rather be right than left.

I don't know that it's derived from the UK Pariament, but actually our "right" and "left" stuff comes from the layout of the US Senate Chamber. (Maybe the chamber's layout is derived from Parliament or something.) You know, where the President stands to give the State Of The Union Address each year. If you're standing in the aisle looking straight at the podium, on your left is the Democrat side with the Kennedys, Clintons, etc, and the people that all of Hollywood align themselves with. And on the right, of course, is the Bush group, the conservatives, the Christians.

Anyway, to answer Lowell's question of WHY...

I count myself a Republican because although neither party is perfect (both parties are, after all, made up of humans who are naturally imperfect), the Republican party just seems to mesh more clearly with my morals and convictions. The Republican party is where you will find most of the people who support, say, the Defense Of Marriage Act, defining marriage as being only between one man and one woman. By contrast, on the other side is where you would find the majority of the "anything goes" people.

(Notice that I used words like "MOST of the people who support," and "MAJORITY of the 'anything goes' people." I realize there are some oddballs in both parties who break those stereotypes.)

Anyway, the Republican party just contains most of the people who are closer to my convictions than the Democratic party, and on so many levels. I don't base my moral opinions around what a political party would say; I base my party around my morals (which is how it should be). I don't just support the war because the Republican party says so or because President Bush says so. I support the war because I choose to support the war. I don't always support President Bush's every decision, but I do support a lot of them. I didn't always disapprove of President Clinton's every decision, as there were plenty of decisions he made that I was quite pleased with.

Anyway, I'm tired and there's other stuff I need to be doing right now anyway, so.....I'm done.

Well its like this... I have left economic views, but I have mostly right moral/social views... I don't remember the term for this... its something weird...

But, for Aussies and such, this is a fairly basic outline of who is who in American Politics...

Why do you believe in marriage?

In the apocryphal works, Marriage was invented by the same people who invented Fishing and Metalsmithing (Yhwh's Angels). In Genesis, Marriage was invented by Yhwh. Both of these ideas are over 2000 years old, and if my sources are correct, over 12,000 years old.

You're carrying on a 12,000 year tradition? Like, sacrificing your firstborn to Quetzacoatl? There's no difference. Tradition is Tradition.

Marriage was made to keep the bloodlines of Kings pure (Kings being the only ones allowed to speak with the Gods). However, we are not kings, and kings no longer speak to the Gods. Divorce proves that we are not kings. When God invented Divorce, Marriage was a nullified concept. Now we are no different from the beasts of the field.

And why do you believe that?

I believe in marriage because I believe it's VERY different from, as you said, sacrificing a firstborn to Quetzalcoatl. Whatever religion Quetzalcoatl was a part of is no longer alive, no longer observed. I serve a living God who impacts my life day in and day out, so I'll be keeping His commandments, thank you very much.

I don't want this thread to become an argument, Lowell, so please don't make it one. You asked a question, I'm answering.

I know. =)

Jesus's Theos is a living god. I appreciate that you prefer the New-Testament deity of synchronicity in our daily lives, rather than the old testament impostor YHWH, who killed many because they would not serve him.

I believe the whole Bible -- Old Testament included.

By the way, this is melding quite a bit into the similar topic you posted in the Christianity forum. Let's keep to Dems / Repubs here, ok?

Hey, I'm not the one who brought up Marriage.

What do you guys think about Weddings then? Because Weddings and Marriage are two different things.

One is made by Gods and one is made by Laws. So which one would you rather have the state dictate? Which one would you rather give up your freedoms to?

I don't think too much about weddings, other than looking forward to my own with my future wife. The real thing I focus on is the marriage...after all, the wedding is only a single ceremony on one day; the marriage is everything thereafter, and that's what I think is most important.

I know you're looking for a debate, but I'm just not in the mood. (Haven't been since I debated Christianity with a pagan for 4 years straight through high school...I'm STILL tired after that!) So I'm going to bow out of this discussion and leave this thread to those with more stamina for this than myself.

Eh. Fair's fair.

Still, A wedding is the symbolic event, in the eyes of the church. It means that, for all intents and purposes, two individuals are as one in the eyes of God.

A marriage is a legal contract, in the eyes of the state. It means that, for all intents and purposes, two individuals get special priveledges and taxes not afforded to those who are unmarried.

This sounds like a topic for a new thread!
