The 3DS is just the upgrade to the DS, it isn't going to "kill" it, just replace it like the PS2 replaced the PS1. People will most likely buy a 3DS instead of a DS now, and the DS will gradually fade out, but not because it's been defeated but because it's been replaced by superior technology.
