I think it'd be pretty exciting to get random battles here and there, ad some excitment and encourages people to go into the forums more rather than using New posts all the time!
Also, even if someone had a weapon, they still should be able to disable random battles because some people may want a weapon but may not want to fight.

I don't think this a possible, but try and put FF7 to play. Like in the arcade you can play it, but you can't save, but just your scores, but what I'm trying to say that FF7 would be playable and everybody can save a game on it somehow. You would be like playing it on internet explorer, American online, etc. I hope you guys understand what I just said.
