I'm glad I live in SC far from the west coast and away from tsunami

I saw footage from Japan this morning in school. It was shocking, and it was tense thinking about what might happen in California and Hawaii.

geeogree : Actually I was watching the news this morning, and the damage was pretty bad from that "2 foot" wave. Yeah it's not deadly, but still people had to be evacuated.

when I said damage I meant leveling buildings and such.... REAL damage. Sure there was going to be some damage caused by the wave but it wasn't going to kill people as long as they were off the beach.

And whatever damage the West coast of North America received isn't even comparable to Japan.

I live in Hawaii and everyone lives pretty close to the shore. Our wave was 6 feet, which, with a 100 mile long wave, could do a tremendous amount of damage. The worst part was that it hit us at 3:00 am on Friday morning. They had sirens going every hour through the night, evacuated tens of thousands of people and tourists, and we had to go buy supplies. Luckily, we dodged another bullet and we were safe with little damage. Some of the other islands got hit harder and with more damage. My favorite restaurant got destroyed but that was only a little bit compared to what happened in Japan.

Tsunamis are tough to go through. You know they're coming and you have to wait a bunch of hours. I lived through the one last year, too, when the Chile earthquake hit. And I live a five minute walk from Waikiki Beach, so I'm in the inundation zone. Lucky I live up a bunch of floors.

We're okay, though.
