sure video games are art. anything that someone deeply appreciates can be condidered art. books, poetry, music, movies, videogames. this definition of art is also extended to sculptures and paintings, so i suppose any inanimate object could be called art.

Well, yes, I consider Video-games a form of art, since art is anything you can put your creativity, heart and soul into, so I also consider movies art, and if a Videogame is not art, at least it's a reason to make art, I mean, Sprites, Concept Art, Fully Orchestrated Movies, Voice-Acting And so on.

I do think they are art. All the thoughts and work that go into them, to program them to perfection; each game on its own is a piece of art. Some better, some worse, of course, but nonetheless, a work "crafted" by many, and how much effort was put in is evident.

I'm kind of a fence case on this: SOME video games are art. The problem is it's new and kind of unconventional, so not a lot of people *treat* it like an art, including developers.

Let me break it down for you: Final Fantasy is art. Okami is art. Big Rigs and Action 52? Totally not art.

In order for anything to be artistic, you have to put effort and care into it. Even if you specialize in only one area, like the graphics or the controls, focus on making it good if not beautiful. Real art, IMO, portrays emotion and creativity. It does not let you drive trucks up mountains and through walls.

But yeah, I would tend to agree, there's not very much that's artistic about a game like GTA for example when compared to something like Castlevania.

I wouldn't consider games like grand theft auto art, but I suppose there are those who would argue it is. We're entitled to our own opinions, and art is about opinions and expression, so who am I to say what is and isn't art? I personally believe games are though, when done with good intent.

Video Games are art. In my open they are one of the highest forms of art. Painters paint scenes but video game creators are making whole interactive worlds along with music, character designs, I'd even go as far to say that the coding is a form of art.
